FIGHT AGAINST BODYBUILDING PROHIBITION.
UNIQUE KLAIPEDA BODYBUILDING FEDERATION.
We would like to underline once again that since 1973 bodybuilding sport in the U.S.S.R. was prohibited. Political powers prosecuted bodybuilders.
On April 17, 1968 during the International Contest in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) the International Bodybuilding Organization («Общественный комитет по атлетической гимнастике С.С.С.Р.») was set. For six years the organization was leading bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R.. It happened two years before when the I.F.B.B. federation was set in 1970 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia).
After the prohibition of bodybuilding the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ closed it‘s work. All five Chairmen of the federation left bodybuilding: Russians ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз, 1910 – 1987), GENADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин, 1934 – 2013), VLADIMIR PETROV (Владимир Петров) and Lithuanians VALERIJ KORESKOV (Валерий Корешков), VYTAUTAS ZUMERIS (Витаутас Зумерис).
DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote fourteen pages petition to defend bodybuilding as the prosecution of bodybuilding sport was getting more severe. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS brought this petition to Moscow and personally presented it to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the U.S.S.R. (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.), to the Supreme Council of the U.S.S.R. (Верховный Совет С.С.С.Р.), to the Ministry Council of the U.S.S.R. (Совет Министров С.С.С.Р.) and main U.S.S.R. political newspapers „Pravda“ („Правда») ir „Izvestija“ («Известия»).
As a reaction to the petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS he was invited to the Department of the Communist Party of Klaipeda City (Lithuanian SSR). The Charman of the Department JONAS GURECKAS (председатель горкома компартии г. Клайпеда Ионас Гурецкас) told DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS not to bother Moscow again. He permitted bodybuilders to train in Klaipeda. Also JONAS GURECKAS permited DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to organize „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023) contest. The Sport Department of Klaipeda had to controll the bodybuilders.
In 1977 the „Klaipeda Bodybuilding Federation“ („Klaipėdos kultūrizmo federacija“, „Федерация культуризма г. Клайпеда“) was set just before the visit of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to Moscow. Today it seems like nothing special. But it was unbelievable at the times when bodybuilding was strictly prohibited. The word „BODYBUILDING“ was also prohibited as a „Western Unit“. So the federation was named as „Klaipeda Federation of Athletic Gymnastic“ („Klaipėdos atletinės gimnastikos federacija“, „Федерация атлетической гимнастики г. Клайпеда»). No one could even dream to establish International Bodybuilding Organization as it was done in the U.S.S.R. before in 1963 and in 1968. Bodybuilding was under total control and prosecution. Everybody was happy to have a federation even like this one.
This way the „Klaipeda Bodybuilding Federation“ was set legaly. It seemed fantastic. Bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R. was prohibited and at the same time „Klaipeda Bodybuilding Federation“ was established. The official address of the federation was the address of the gym of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS – Sportininku Str. 17, Klaipeda, Lithuanian SSR. This name and address was used by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to communicate with the Chairmen of the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport (Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.), all International Bodybuilding leaders of that time: N.A.B.B.A. President OSCAR HEIDENSTAM, I.F.B.B. President BEN WEIDER, W.A.B.B.A. President SERGE NUBRET. There was an intensive correspondence among them. That was the reason that the above mentioned persons were sending their magazines, literature and documents to „Klaipeda Bodybuilding Federation“ which was represented by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was communicating with all of them until their deaths. The communication went on even when DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS legally established the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International („World Fitness Federation“, „World Bodybuilding Federation“). But we will speak of this in the third part of the „World Bodybuilding Encyclopedia“ („Pasaulinė kultūrizmo enciklopedija“, «Энциклопедия всемирного культуризма»).
Until 1987 „Klaipeda Bodybuilding Federation“ was the only one legal bodybuilding organization in the U.S.S.R. registered and recognized as a „FEDERATION“. All other gyms of the U.S.S.R. worked illegally or they were hiding themselves as a „not bodybuilding units“.
At that time no one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding representatives new foreign languages. At the same time DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was studying foreign languages at the Vilnius State University (Lithuanian SSR). Nobody took DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to meet the I.F.B.B. President BEN WEIDER when in 1978 he visited Moscow. So all participants of the meeting shook hands, took pictures and received I.F.B.B. gifts. No discussion... Today it seemes like the participants of the meeting were afraid of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Knowing languages he could speak some „U.S.S.R. secrets“ to BEN WEIDER... At the same time DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was just after his 1978 visit to Moscow with the bodybuilding defending petition. At the same time DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was after the sucessful 1978 „Amber Prix International“ which was the „unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). Later the Ministry of Sport of the U.S.S.R. recognized the „Amber Prix International“ as a former „unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ and started presenting the respectful names of the „U.S.S.R. Sport Master“ («Мастер спорта С.С.С.Р.») to the Winners of the „Amber Prix International“.
The thadition of bodybuilding recognition in the U.S.S.R. that was started by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS in 1978 went on. Bodybuilders surrounded the popular „Amber Prix International“.

At the eight decade of the last century one of noticable bodybuilders of the Lithuanian SSR was JURIJ ZURENKO (Юрий Журенко). He was representing the famous „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“. JURIJ ZURENKO participated only twice and both times he was at the third place. It was in 1974 at the „Georg Tenno Memorial“( «Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 – 1989, Tallinn, Estonian SSR) and in 1976 at the International contest in Kalinin (R.S.F.S.R.).

German women bodybuilder CHRISTA BAUCH since 1988 until 1995 participated at the eleven W.A.B.B.A. and I.F.B.B. competitions. Best results of CHRISTA BAUCH were the first places at the 1988 W.A.B.B.A. Europe Championship and at the 1989 “World Games”.

HOW WORLD BODYBUILDING WAS DEVELOPED.
WHY SOCIALIST BODYBUILDING WENT DIFERENT WAY?
Why „Socialist“ bodybuilding was so much diferent from the „Western“ one? To get the answer we must to study the biography of American BOB HOFFMAN and the documents of the International Weightlifting F.I.H.C. (F.I.H., Federation Internationale Halterophile) federation. Only then the answer will come. And this is the ABC of bodybuilding. One can not read and one can not write if he does not know the ABC.
All his life BOB HOFFMAN was working together with the A.A.U. („Amateur Athletes Union“). A.A.U. was the Ministry of Sport in the USA by fact. BOB HOFMAN wanted bodybuilding to become the Olympic sport and step by step he was keeping on this direction. Due to his efforts in 1947 a member of the I.O.C. International F.I.H.C. federation included bodybuilding in it‘s programmes. F.I.H.C. started ruling official bodybuilding sport. This way BOB HOFFMAN saw the real recognition of bodybuilding as sport. He was always supported by the Chairmen of the A.A.U., the F.I.H.C., the National Olympic Committe of the USA and by the I.O.C.. For many years the Chairman of the A.A.U., the National Olympic Committe of the USA and of the I.O.C. was a good friend of BOB HOFFMAN. That was AVERY BRUNDAGE (1887 – 1975). No other companies or organizations could compete with BOB HOFFMAN during the time of his active work in bodybuilding because the A.A.U., the F.I.H.C., the National Olympic Committe of the USA and of the I.O.C. was behind BOB HOFFMAN.
After the WWII WEIDER brothers JOE and BEN started their private company „I.F.B.B.“ (International Federation of Bodybuilders) but the company worked only in the USA and Canada. In 1950 N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association) started it‘s work in Great Britain, but that was a National Association only.
It is evident today that it was BOB HOFFMAN who brought bodybuilding sport to many countries, the Great Britain as well. Due to his efforts in 1947 the F.I.H.C. started ruling the official bodybuilding sport. The first in the sport history „Mr. Universe“ contest was organized in 1947 in the USA. Since that time it was always held together with the F.I.H.C. World Weightlifting Championship. In 1947 the Over All „Mr. Universe“ Champion was a pupil of BOB HOFFMAN American STEVE STANKO.
By the initiative of BOB HOFFMAN the second F.I.H.C. „Mr. Universe“ contest was held in 1948 in London (Great Britain). It was organized during the London Olympic Games. This was possible to do only when a member of the I.O.C. International F.I.H.C. federation was behind it. Formally the organizer of the „Mr. Universe“ was a member of the F.I.H.C. British B.A.W.L.A. (British Amateur Weightlifting Association). The Over All „Mr. Universe“ was again a pupil of BOB HOFFMAN American JOHN GRIMEK.
In the Socialist Countries bodybuilding appeared also by the efforts of BOB HOFFMAN. It happened in 1959 when the F.I.H.C. organized World Weightlifting Championship in Warszawa (People‘s Republic of Poland, P.N.R., Polska Narodowa Respublika). As a tradition the F.I.H.C. bodybuilding „Mr. Universe“ was held at the same time. Then the Over All Champion was French GUY MIERCZUK. The people of the Socialist World first time saw „live“ bodybuilders. National Weightlifting Federations of the Socialist Countries started setting their bodybuilding departments. First of all it happened in the U.S.S.R., People‘s Republic of Poland, German Democratic Republic (D.D.R., Deutches Demokratishe Republik) and Czechoslovakian SSR (Č.S.S.R., Československa Socialisticka Respublika).
WHY SOCIALIST BODYBUILDING WENT IT‘S OWN WAY?
We have mentioned before that BOB HOFFMAN ifluenced on the establishing bodybuilding departments at the National Weightlifting Federations of Socialist countries. It happened after 1959 F.I.H.C. bodybuilding „Mr. Universe“ held in Warszawa (People‘s Republic of Poland).
In 1963 the Ministry of Sport of the U.S.S.R. (Министерство спорта С.С.С.Р., Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.) issued an order to set the bodybuilding department at the U.S.S.R. Weightliftin Federation. It was named the „Bodybuilding Committee“. The Chairman of the Committee was a known R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз). There were no real bodybuilders in the U.S.S.R. then. Weightlifters did not knew much about it too. This way the Committee did nothing and finally stopped working.
Later the first among the Socialist countries was the U.S.S.R. again ant it was the Lithuanian SSR. The new grown bodybuilders required leadership.
On April 19, 1968 during the International Contest in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) a new International Bodybuilding Committee was established. It was named the „U.S.S.R. Social Committee of Bodybuilding“ («Общественный комитет по атлетической гимнастике С.С.С.Р.»). The Committee was rulled by the Council of five persons:
1. ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз), Moscow, R.S.F.S.R.
2. VLADIMIR PETROV (Владимир Петров), Moscow, R.S.F.S.R.
3. GENADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин), Moscow, R.S.F.S.R.
4. VYTAUTAS ZUMERIS, Kaunas, Lithuanian SSR
5. VALERIJ KORESKOV (Валерий Корешков), Vilnius, Lithuanian SSR.
The Chairman of the Committee was the mentioned above ROMAN MOROZ. Folowing six years the Committee rulled the official U.S.S.R. bodybuilding sport. We want to underline that the Committee (International Bopdybuilding Organization) was set two years before the I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) Sport Federation established in 1970 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia). Until 1970 the I.F.B.B. was a private company of JOE and BEN WEIDER brothers – not a sport federation.
Why we are discussing the same topic again? We must speak about the F.I.H.C. rules that several decades influenced the development of bodybuilding in the Socialist countries. According the F.I.H.C. rules the basics of bodybuilding are power exercises. Only this way F.I.H.C. bodybuilding was connected with weightlifting. Only this way bodybuilding was clearly close to a recognized Olympic sport and that was a big wish of BOB HOFFMAN.
In 1947 F.I.H.C. started ruling the official bodybuilding sport in the World. Power exercises were at all contest programmes. It lasted until 1969 when F.I.H.C. stopped it. In 1973 the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport issued the order to prohibit bodybuilding. One way F.I.H.C. rules minimized the prosecution of bodybuilding in the Socialist countries. At the same time it stopped development of bodybuilding as it was in the „Western“ World. This way the Socialist bodybuilders were left behind the „Western“ ones.
After 1969 there were no more power exercises at the „Western“ competitions. For many years the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders guestioned why they have power exercises at their contests? Power exercises was the obstacle to develop perfect bodies. Bodybuilders had to make a choice – to develop power or to develop their bodies.
If we speak about the U.S.S.R. we can state that the first bodybuilders were similar to the „West“ bodybuilders due to their individual nature. The U.S.S.R. leading athletes were Lithuanians VALDAS ALIUBAVICIUS, LEONAS PIVORIUNAS, CESLAV TAMULEVIC (Чеслав Тамулевич), PRANAS MURAUSKAS, Estonian OLEV ANNUS (Олев Аннус) and Russian VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин). The bodybuilders who went the way of power exercises did not have perfect muscles. A good example is the U.S.S.R. Champion ALEKSANDR LEMECHOV (Александр Лемехов, R.S.S.F.R., Severodvinsk).
Bodybuilders of the Lithuanian SSR dominated in the U.S.S.R. until in 1987 the official recognized by Government U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation was set. Discussing about the F.I.H.C. influence on bodybuilding we will illustrate it through Lithuanian bodybuilders.
We can state that the representatives of the famous „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“ (“Вильнюсская школа культуризма») were equal to the „Western“ bodybuilders at once. The „School“ was led by CESLAV TAMULEVIC (Чеслав Тамулевич). The „School“ bodybuilders were on top always due to the training methods. These methods were without developing classic power exercises. Body was the priority. Best representatives of the „School“ were VALDAS ALIUBAVICIUS, PRANAS MURAUSKAS, RICARDAS KRINICKIS, EUGENE ZURCEV (Евгений Журцев), EUGENE GORELIK (Евгений Горелик), STASYS CUKANOVAS (Стасис Цукановас). At the same time Kaunas bodybuilders went the F.I.H.C. way. Power exercises and methods dominated at their training sessions. Nobody in the U.S.S.R. knew anything about diet. It lasted until in 1976 the Estonian OLEV ANNUS (Олев Аннус) appeared ripped on the contest stage. The first International level bodybuilder from Kaunas was VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS (Владас Капцявичус). In 1977 he nearly won agaist leading U.S.S.R. bodybuilder OLEV ANNUS at the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 - 1989) in Tallinn (Estonian SSR).

USA bodybuilder MIKE SABLE since 1976 until 1990 participated at the twelve A.A.U., N.P.C., N.A.B.B.A. and W.A.B.B.A. competitions. Best results of MIKE SABLE were the first places at the 1982 A.A.U. “Mr. America” and at the 1982 W.A.B.B.A. World Championship.

1979 IMPORTANT EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS.
We would like to remind that due to political reasons after 1973 bodybuilding sport was prohibited in the U.S.S.R. and Socialist countries. In 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote the petition to defend bodybuilding. This petition he brought to Moscow and presented to the highest U.S.S.R. political institutions. As a result of the petition U.S.S.R. polititians let DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to organize „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023) bodybuilding contests. In fact „Amaber Prix International“ was the unofficial «U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship» (неофициальный «Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). The 1978 „Amber Prix“ was an example to other bodybuilders of the U.S.S.R.. During the bodybuilding prohibition they started showing „Amber Prix International“ to local political powers and asking permition to organize contests. Unfortunatelly it happened not so quickly. Only Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) organizers started making political contests under the name „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė“, «Кубок комсомола»).
In 1978 after the successfull „Amber Prix International“ DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS visited People‘s Republic of Poland and Czechoslovakian SSR. In Warszawa he spoke with bodybuilders of „Hercules“ Gym. They gave DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS a written invitation for the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders to participate at the International contest in Warszawa in 1979. In those times nobody could move through Socialist countries without invitation. Only then Ministries of Foregn Affairs of definite countries used to give permittion to visit another Socialist country.
In 1978 in Czechoslovakian SSR DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS met the President of the National Bodybuilding Federation VOJTECH FIALA (Войтех Фиала). They spoke about the details of the coming 1979 common event. Both agreed that DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS with the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders will come to the 1979 Czechoslovakia National Championship in Ostrava. At the same time there will be organized the competition „Czechoslovakia – U.S.S.R.“ («Чехословакия – СССР»). DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was presented invitations for the folowing U.S.S.R. bodybuilders: Lithuanians EUGENE GORELIK (Евгений Горелик), SAULIUS MISEVICHUS (Саулюс Мисявичус), ALBERTAS BESAKIRSKAS (Альбертас Бесакирскас) and Estonian OLEV ANNUS (Олев Аннус). Also DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS included to the U.S.S.R. delegation the Chairman of the „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“ CESLAV TAMULEVICH (руководитель «Вильнюсской школы культуризма» Чеслав Тамулевич). After 1973 the U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») was closed. The Secretary of the formal U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS (Романас Калинацскас) still kept contacts with Moscow. When he learned about the coming event in Czechoslovakia and when he learned that he is not included to the delegation, he started writing letters to the communist power institutions. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS wanted to ruin the 1979 coming contest „Czechoslovakia – U.S.S.R.“ and he did it. The contest was canceled. The invitations for the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders still are kept in the archieves of the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation).
Then DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS gave his invitation to 1979 International contest in Warszawa to his friend INNAR MARDO (Иннар Мардо, 1946 – 2002). In 1979 INNAR MARDO went to Poland with OLEV ANNUS. OLEV ANNUS won his category and the Over All Winner‘s title. There INNAR MARDO met organizers of various Socialist countries and they invited the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders to participate at their contests.
This was in 1979 that INNAR MARDO and Estonian INDREK OTSUS (Индрек Отсус) participated at the „Trener“ contest in Czechoslovakian SSR. INDREK OTSUS was the Over All Winner and he won in his category against the 1975 I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) Europe Champion PETER STACH (Петер Стах).
At the same 1979 INNAR MARDO with OLEV ANNUS and INDREK OTSUS participated at the International contest in Budapest (Hungarian SSR). Both Estonia SSR bodybuilders won their categories. INDREK OTSUS won against the famous ANTON HOLIC (Антон Холич) and OLEV ANNUS won against PETER URICEK (Петер Уричек) who were top bodybuilders of Czechoslovakian SSR at that time.
In 1979 after the conflict with INNAR MARDO OLEV ANNUS started writing bad letters about him to the political institutions of the Estonian SSR. The conflict was influenced by the Bodybuilding Organizers of Lithuanian SSR who hated the International results achieved by INNAR MARDO. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was among the enemies of INNAR MARDO. Lithuanians pressed OLEV ANNUS to take the place of INNAR MARDO.
After the participation at the 1979 „Trener“ competition the Estonian political powers closed the gym of INNAR MARDO. The similar process was in the Lithuanian SSR too. Lithuanian bodybuilding organizers hated DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. It was because DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS got so great results due to his petition. Also due to successfull 1978 „Amber Prix International“ which brougt a total attention of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders. When support to defend bodybuilding sport was needed no one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders was together with DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. No one of them supported him in his fight to defend bodybuilding sport. Due to the conflicts in 1979 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS lost his „Gintaras“ gym too. It was closed. The Lithuanians led by ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS prohibited for a pupil of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS at that time the best Klaipeda bodybuilder ALBERTAS REMEIKA (Альбертас Ремейка) to participate at the 1979 „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 – 1989). This bodybuilder successfully participated at the competition in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) in 1979. Then he had imperssive huge muscles and weight over 120 kilograms.
This way due to the intriques and conflicts no one of bodybuilders of the Lithuanian SSR could participate at the International contests in the Socialist countries in 1979. This way INNAR MARDO participated at the International contests only with bodybuilders of the Estonian SSR. All bodybuilders of the U.S.S.R. were left behind.

1972 National Champion of Japan bodybuilder SHIGERU SUGITA since 1970 until 1985 participated at the ten N.A.B.B.A. and I.F.B.B. competitions. Best results of SHIGERU SUGITA were the first place and the Over All Winner’s title at the 1976 N.A.B.B.A. “Mr. Universe” and the first place at the 1976 I.F.B.B. “Mr. International”.

2023. I.F.B.B. PLAY FINANCIAL GAMES.
WHICH COUNTRIES THROW STATE MONEY FOR I.F.B.B.?
The tradition to give money for bodybuilding comes from the F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturiste) times. Then due to the efforts of the American BOB HOFFMAN (Robert Collins Hoffman, 1898 - 1985 m.) official World bodybuilding sport for more than twenty years was rulled by the F.I.H.C.. At that time F.I.H.C. was a member of the I.O.C. (International Olympic Committee) and it‘s activities were accepted and respected through the World. That was the „Golden Age“ for official bodybuilding sport. Nearly all World‘s National Bodybuilding Organizations were a part of the National Weightlifting Federations and all of them were financed by their Governments. We mean official recognized bodybuilding sport only.
In 1969 F.I.H.C. stopped ruling World‘s bodybuilding. Then in 1970 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) the I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) sport federation was set. Until this time the I.F.B.B. was a private commercial company only, not a sport federation. In 1971 I.F.B.B. became a member of the G.A.I.S.F. (General Association of International Sports Federations) and this gave it the official recognition.
I.F.B.B. President BEN WEIDER was seeking the I.O.C. membership. In 1998 the I.O.C. gave the I.F.B.B. a two year‘s trial time. Received more information about the I.F.B.B. federetaion the I.O.C. refused to recognize the I.F.B.B.. In 2008 and in 2015 the I.F.B.B. was split with scandals. Now the I.F.B.B. is rulled by the Spanish RAFAEL SANTONJA.
Since F.I.H.C. and G.A.I.S.F. times bodybuilding is still financed by a number of countries. The countries are very specific: only post Socialist Countries and the Asian ones. Democratic countries never supported or financed bodybuilding. On the other hand some countries take actions against bodybuilding (for example UK and Scandinavia countries). Many National Bodybuilding Federations of Asia Countries are still a part of the National Weightlifting Federations. This gives them possibility to get governmental financing. They present themselves as bodybuilfing federations but they are a part of their National Weightlifting. It gives them priorities as all National Asia Weightlifting Federations are members of the Asia Olympic Committee and this is the way to receive governmental money.
2023 SERBIA NEWS.
We received some news from Serbia. I.F.B.B. Serbia receives comparitivelly big money from the Serbia Ministry of Sport. Part of the polititians and journalists do not like this and protest. The reason of the protest is clear – on September 23, 2022 W.A.D.A. (World Anti Doping Agency) refused to work together with the I.F.B.B.. W.A.D.A. informes officially that „the I.F.B.B. is non complaint World Anti-Doping Code“).
2023 I.F.B.B. WORLD EVENT IN LATVIA.
Some time ago the I.F.B.B. Latvia organized a World level contest. The money was spent very big for the hall of the event, prizes and medals, decorations. Unfortunatelly there were only few athlets representing six countries participating and those countries were from post Socialist World. What of this thinks Ministry of Sport of Latvia? Next year the tradition of this ridiculous event goes to Lithuania.
2023 I.F.B.B. EVENT IN LITHUANIA.
Some time ago the I.F.B.B. Lithuania organized a contest in a City of Kedainiai. The hall was tremendous, prizes, cups etc. were superious. Big money was spent on this. But there were only few participants and there were in a huge hall only several spectators. The spectators were only the trainers and family members of the participating sportsmen. What of this thinks Ministry of Sport of Lithuania?

WHEN BODYBUILDING WAS PROHIBITED.
RUSSIAN BODYBUILDING IN EIGHTIES OF LAST CENTURY.
In 1973 the Minister of Sport of the U.S.S.R. («Министерство спорта С.С.С.Р., Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.) issued the political order prohibiting bodybuilding sport in the U.S.S.R.. Similar orders were issued in other countries of the Socialist World. Discussing the time of prohibition we always mention traditional contests of the Baltic States only: the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 – 1989, Tallinn, Estonian SSR, organizer Innar Mardo) and the „Amber Prix International“ («Янтарный приз», „Gintarinis prizas“, 1968 – 2023, Klaipeda, Lithuanian SSR, organizer DSc. Edmundas Daubaras). Russian (R.S.F.S.R., Р.С.Ф.С.Р.) bodybuilding is somehow out of the attention. Why?
There is a certin reason. After 1973 prohibition all former R.S.F.S.R. organizers and most bodybuilders left bodybuilding. They were afraid of prosecution. Only once Russians dared to organize International Contest, it was in 1976 in Kalinin (now Tver, R.S.F.S.R., Калинин, сейчас Тверь). Local Government prohibited the competition and Russians did it in a local gym. It was done secretly and without public.
The activity of the Russian bodybuilders dissapeared after the 1974 „Georg Tenno Memorial“. Then the Russian leading bodybuilder VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин) lost to the Lithuanian PRANAS NURAUSKAS (Пранас Мураускас). After this VLADIMIR DUBININ had hidden himself until 1986. VLADIMIR DUBININ was back only in 1986 when DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS invited him to the „Amber Prix International“.
Samultainiously a number of Russian bodybuilders participated in Baltic countries on their own. The most noticable were athlets from Severodvinsk (led by the U.S.S.R. Champion Aleksandr Lemechov, Александр Лемехов), from Tiumen (led by Eugene Koltun, Евгений Колтун) and from Kaliningrad (led by Jurij Smoliakov, Юрий Смоляков).
In the beginning of nineties of the last century representing R.S.F.S.R. a Moscow painter VLADIMIR SHUBOV (Владимир Шубов) started participating at the International Baltic contests with his team. The most skilled bodybuilders of VLADIMIR SUBOV were GEORGIJ MOSALIOV (Георгий Мосалёв), SERGEJ ZAICEV (Сергей Зайцев) and OLEG MASLOV (Олег Маслов).

WHAT WAS KEPT IN SILENCE?
Why today DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS name stay together with BEN WEIDER, OSCAR HEIDENSTAM, OSCAR STATE and BOB FOFFMAN? Why Russia journalists call DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS „The Father of Russia Bodybuilding?“ („Отец российского культуризма»).
We would like to underline that after 1973 bodybuilding sport was prohibited in the U.S.S.R. and Socialist countries. Bodybuilders were prosecuted. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was alone to fight against the bodybuilding prohibition after the 1977 another more strict order of the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport (Министерство спорта С.С.С.Р., Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.) to prosecute bodybuilding. No one bodybuilder or organizer dared to stay together with DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS in his fight. No one thought that DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS will succeed.
The 1977 „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023, Klaipėda, Lithuania, organizer was DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS) was like a rehersal for the folowing risky steps of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. The 1977 contest was held in public at the Klaipeda Sea Port Palace. Bodybuilders of the DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS gym collected the spectators that were their friends and family members. The hall was full of people. The contest was illegal to the political powers of that time.
The 1978 „Amber Prix International“ was organized just after DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS visited Moscow to defend the bodybuilding sport. In Moscow he presented his petition to the U.S.S.R. highest political organizations. The petition was given to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.), to the U.S.S.R. Supreme Council (Верховный Совет С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. Ministry Council (Совет Министров С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. cental political newspapers „Pravda“ («Правда») and „Izvestija“ («Известия»). Due to the petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS U.S.S.R. political powers gave permition to organize „Amber Prix International“ in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR).
But DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wanted much more. He dared to organize the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму») together with 1978 „Amber Prix“. No one knew what the reaction of political powers will be. Nevermind DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS had taken the risk and did this step.
UNIQUE STAGE OF THE CONTEST.
We will start with very clear and simple items. Now working on the „World Bodybuilding Encyclopedia“ («Энциклопедия всемирного культуризма») we scrutinized information, pictures of all previous U.S.S.R. bodybuilding competitions: since 1965 until 1978. No one contest stage was equal to the stage of the 1978 „Amber Prix International“. We can state that the stage of the 1977 „Amber Prix“ was more or less like the stage of the 1972 „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемортал Георга Тенно», 1971 – 1989, Tallinn, Estonian SSR, organizer Innar Mardo, Иннар Мардо). But the stage of the 1978 „Amber Prix International“ was unique with it‘s capasity and decorations. In the centre of the stage was a big picture of FRANK ZANE. In the background of FRANK ZANE was a huge map of the U.S.S.R.. On both sides of the decoration were all fifteen National flags of the Socialist Republics of the U.S.S.R.. Who has seen anything like this in the U.S.S.R. before? How DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS dared to do this? Nobody knew what the reaction of the U.S.S.R. political powers will be after this. This was a real confrontation with the communist regime. Anyway DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS took the risk and did it.
NO SUPPORT. BODYBUILDERS SLEPT IN PIONEER CAMP.
Nobody supported and nobody financed the 1978 „Amber Prix International“. All working group consisted of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS himself, mother of his wife, his wife and some bodybuilders from the gym of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Competitiors of the competition were given sleeping places at the sea coast in a Giruliai resort children‘s pioneer camp. The vocation season did not starteed then. The stage decoration was done by the mother of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wife - it was made of the children‘s nappies. As DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS asked a known Belorussia painter OLEG ISAJEV (Олег Исаев) painted a figure of FRANK ZANE. In the background of it he painet the map of the U.S.S.R.. The prizes for the first six places of each category were made by Klaipeda bodybuilder OLEG SEROV (Олег Серов). Medals and diplomas were made by Klaipeda design company. The expences were covered by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS himself.

Representing famous in the U.S.S.R. „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“ («Вильнюсская школа культуризма») bodybuilder VYTAUTAS PLECKEVICIUS (Витаутас Плецкявичус) participated at the competitions only once. Then his trainer was the well known in the U.S.S.R. CESLAV TAMULEVICH (Чеслав Тамулевич). So in 1976 VYTAUTAS PLECKEVICIUS became the Over All Junior Winner at the International contest in Kalinin (now Tver, Russian Federation).

1979 IMPORTANT EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS.
We would like to remind that due to political reasons after 1973 bodybuilding sport was prohibited in the U.S.S.R. and Socialist countries. In 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote the petition to defend bodybuilding. This petition he brought to Moscow and presented to the highest U.S.S.R. political institutions. The 1978 „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023, Klaipeda, Lithuanian SSR, organizer DSc. Edmundas Daubaras) was organized just after DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS visited Moscow to defend the bodybuilding sport. In Moscow he presented his petition to the U.S.S.R. highest political organizations. The petition was given to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.), to the U.S.S.R. Supreme Council (Верховный Совет С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. Ministry Council (Совет Министров С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. cental political newspapers „Pravda“ («Правда») and „Izvestija“ («Известия»). Due to the petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS U.S.S.R. political powers gave permition to organize „Amber Prix International“ in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). But DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wanted much more. He dared to organize the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму») together with 1978 „Amber Prix“. No one knew what the reaction of political powers will be. Nevermind DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS had taken the risk and did this step.
The 1978 petition of the DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to defend bodybuilding did some changes in the work of the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport (Министерство спорта С.С.С.Р., Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.). As told by one of the Chairman of the 1968 U.S.S.R. Bodybuidling Federation (Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.) R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter GENADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин) the petition to the U.S.S.R. highest polititians made big mess in the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport. Somebody was even punnished... At that time GENADIJ BALDIN was working at the U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation and he was very well informed about all happenings in the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport. They remembered previous 1963 and 1968 U.S.S.R. Bodybuidling Federations that were set due to the F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturiste) activities through the World. Due to the DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS petition U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport accepted the fresh „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Комиссия атлетической гимнастики С.С.С.Р.» as well as «Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.»). as it was in 1963 the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ was a part of the „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ (Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.). Nevertheless bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R. was still prohibited and this bodybuilding federation egzisted only formally. It did zero work in fact. The Chairman of the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ was a R.S.F.S.R. Weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз), the General Secretary ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS.
As a result of the petition U.S.S.R. polititians let DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to organize „Amber Prix International“ bodybuilding contests in Klaipeda. The 1978 „Amber Prix“ was an example to other bodybuilders of the U.S.S.R.. During the bodybuilding prohibition they started showing „Amber Prix International“ to local political powers and asking permition to organize contests. Unfortunatelly it happened not so quickly. Only Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) organizers started making political contests under the name „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė“, «Кубок комсомола»). In 1978 after the successfull „Amber Prix International“ DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS visited People‘s Republic of Poland and Czechoslovakian SSR. In Warszawa he spoke with bodybuilders of „Hercules“ Gym. They gave DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS a written invitation for the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders to participate at the International contest in Warszawa in 1979. In those times nobody could move through Socialist countries without invitation. Only then Ministries of Foregn Affairs of definite countries used to give permittion to visit another Socialist country.
In 1978 in Czechoslovakian SSR DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS met the President of the National Bodybuilding Federation VOJTECH FIALA (Войтех Фиала). They spoke about the details of the coming 1979 common event. Both agreed that DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS with the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders will come to the 1979 Czechoslovakia National Championship in Ostrava. At the same time there will be organized the competition „Czechoslovakia – U.S.S.R.“ («Чехословакия – С.С.С.Р.»). DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was presented invitations for the folowing U.S.S.R. bodybuilders: Lithuanians EUGENE GORELIK (Евгений Горелик), SAULIUS MISEVICHUS (Саулюс Мисявичус), ALBERTAS BESAKIRSKAS (Альбертас Бесакирскас) and Estonian OLEV ANNUS (Олев Аннус). Also DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS included to the U.S.S.R. delegation the Chairman of the „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“ CESLAV TAMULEVICH (руководитель «Вильнюсской школы культуризма» Чеслав Тамулевич). After 1973 the U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») was closed. The Secretary of the formal U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS (Романас Калинацскас) still kept contacts with Moscow. When he learned about the coming event in Czechoslovakia and when he learned that he is not included to the delegation, he started writing letters to the communist power institutions. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS wanted to ruin the 1979 coming contest „Czechoslovakia – U.S.S.R.“ and he did it. The contest was canceled. The invitations for the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders still are kept in the archieves of the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation).
Then DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS gave his invitation to 1979 International contest in Warszawa to his friend INNAR MARDO (Иннар Мардо, 1946 – 2002). Due to this invitation in 1979 INNAR MARDO went to Poland with OLEV ANNUS. OLEV ANNUS won his category and the Over All Winner‘s title. There INNAR MARDO met organizers of various Socialist countries and they invited the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders to participate at their contests.
This was in 1979 that INNAR MARDO and Estonian INDREK OTSUS (Индрек Отсус) participated at the „Trener“ contest in Czechoslovakian SSR. INDREK OTSUS was the Over All Winner and he won in his category against the 1975 I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) Europe Champion PETER STACH (Петер Стах).
At the same 1979 INNAR MARDO with OLEV ANNUS and INDREK OTSUS participated at the International contest „Spartacus Cup“ in Budapest (Hungarian SSR). Both Estonia SSR bodybuilders won their categories. INDREK OTSUS won against the famous ANTON HOLIC (Антон Холич) and OLEV ANNUS won against PETER URICEK (Петер Уричек) who were top bodybuilders of the Czechoslovakian SSR at that time.
In 1979 after the conflict with INNAR MARDO OLEV ANNUS started writing bad letters about him to the political institutions of the Estonian SSR. The conflict was influenced by the ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS nad other Bodybuilding Organizers of Lithuanian SSR who hated the International results achieved by INNAR MARDO. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was among the enemies of INNAR MARDO. Lithuanians pressed OLEV ANNUS to replace INNAR MARDO in Estonian SSR.
After the participation at the 1979 „Trener“ competition the Estonian political powers closed the gym of INNAR MARDO. The similar process was in the Lithuanian SSR too. Lithuanian bodybuilding organizers hated DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. It was because DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS got so great results due to his petition. Also due to successfull 1978 „Amber Prix International“ which brougt a total attention of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders. When support to defend bodybuilding sport was needed no one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders was together with DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. No one of them supported him in his fight to defend bodybuilding sport. Due to the conflicts in 1979 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS lost his „Gintaras“ gym too. It was closed. About twenty high level bodybuilders left the contest stage for all times. No one wanted to support ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS group. The Lithuanians led by ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS prohibited for a pupil of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS at that time the best Klaipeda bodybuilder ALBERTAS REMEIKA (Альбертас Ремейка) to participate at the 1979 „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 – 1989). Ther reason was that ALBERTAS REMEIKA was a pupil of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Nothing more. This bodybuilder successfully participated at the competition in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) in 1979. Then he had imperssive huge muscles and weight over 120 kilograms. The specialists spoke about the nioce future of ALBERTAS REMEIKA.
This way due to the intriques and conflicts no one of bodybuilders of the Lithuanian SSR could participate at the International contests in the Socialist countries in 1979. This way INNAR MARDO participated at the International contests only with bodybuilders of the Estonian SSR. All other bodybuilders of the U.S.S.R. were left behind.

WHO IN U.S.S.R. COULD THINK ON INTERNATIONAL LEVEL?
ROLE OF PERSONALITY IN LIFE AND SPORT.
Everyone‘s personality depends on many items. One of them is – basing on which position a personality analizes all happenings. We mean bodybuilders, of course. Do you think of this as a sportsman, as a trainer or organizer or you think as an International Leader? Specialists of our sport scrutinize the same documents and the same basics but everybody of them evaluate the same items on a different way. Then we may look if this specialist is of a local level or he represents the International one. The specialist must get himself above the happenings of his time and he must look on everything like a flying bird high in the sky. Otherwise he can not understand waht is going on.
In the U.S.S.R. there were only few personalities who could think wide in the very beginning of bodybuilding. The representatives of various regions of the U.S.S.R. mostly were thinking in a narrow way. For example, Tiumen gym trainer JEVGENIJ KOLTUN (Евгений Колтун, R.S.F.S.R.) always represented a gym level and nothing more. The same was with a Kaliningrad trainer JURIJ SMILIAKOV (Юрий Смоляков, R.S.F.S.R.) and with a Severodvinsk trainer the U.S.S.R. Champion ALEKSANDR LEMECHOV (Александр Лемехов, R.S.F.S.R.). The same was with a Leningrad gym trainer VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин, R.S.F.S.R.). A representative of Riga (Latvian SSR) FELIKS SAJKOVSKIJ (Феликс Сайковский) and nearly all representatives of the Lithuanian SSR were on the same local level of understanding. There were no more active bodybuilding organizers in the U.S.S.R. at that time but only those we mentioned only. The exception could be the General Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS (Романас Калинаускас). How we can understand this „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ when bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R. is prohibited? It had totally no power. But unfortunatelly all activities of ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS were done through intrigues and blackmailing of his sport friends to the Communist political powers. Knowing no foreign languages ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was separated from the World and could not understand the International process. Another exceptional person was INNAR MARDO (Иннар Мардо, 1946 – 2002, Tallinn, Estonian SSR). He also did not know any foreign language and worked only in Estonia. Even to do anything on the U.S.S.R. level he had no interest. But on regular basis organized by INNAR MARDO „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 – 1989, Tallinn, Estonian SSR) contests gave him a huge prestige and respect of others. One more exception was DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. During the period of bodybuilding prohibition he organized illegal „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023, Klaipeda, Lithuanian SSR) contests in 1974, 1975, 1976 and in 1977. Wishing to defend bodybuilding sport DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS for several years was in correspondence with the Ministry of Sport of the U.S.S.R. („U.S.S.R. Goskomsport“, Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.). Finally received from the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport a negatyve answer DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote a bodybuilding defending petition and personally brought it to Moscow. He presented the petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers: to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.), to the U.S.S.R. Supreme Council (Верховный Совет С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. Ministry Council (Совет Министров С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. cental political newspapers „Pravda“ («Правда») and „Izvestija“ («Известия»). In 1978 due to the petition of DSc. Leaders do not like a stable life. A Leader of any kind has courage and resposibility. Leaders always seek the result end never doubt if they will not succeed. At the same time the majority does nothing. They sit in silence. So who was the bodybuilding Leader in the U.S.S.R.? The very similar to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS life was of his friends in sport: the President I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) BEN WEIDER, also the similar way of life was of the President N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association) OSCAR HEIDENSTAM and W.A.B.B.A. (World Amateur Body Building Association) President SERGE NUBRET. The same similar way was of the General Secretary F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturiste) International OSCAR STATE.
Not knowing foreign languages narrowed possibilities of INNAR MARDO, but DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS assisted and helped him always. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS did not know any foreign language and he always worked to be close to the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport. To say more he did his best to be close to the U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation (Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.). That were his top items for respect and loyality. But what he could get out of this when bodybuilding was prohibited in the U.S.S.R.? Just nothing.
While studying English and German philology at the Vilnius State University DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS did several attempts to unite gyms of Vilnius City. Nobody else never tried to do this. Anyway bodybuilding was prohibited in the U.S.S.R. and bodybuilders were afraid to do anything.
It is easy to speak when the work is done and everything goes smoothly. But at the moment to fight agaist bodybuilding prohibition no one supported DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. No one. Today being already old many former U.S.S.R. bodybuilding organizers and bodybuilders try to „be Facebook friends“ of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Fine. But where they were at the hard times of risky fighting?
During the fifty years of his bodybuilding activities there was a number of „deputies“ and assistants of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Many wanted to take the place of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and to go on doing the same. No one succeeded.
Many disliked the stormy activities of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Especially when he succeeded in his work. And he did. Having no wish to get into the intrigues of such people DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS got into the Vilnius State University in 1979 again. This time DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS studied law after he received the speciality of the phylology before. And again he succeeded. The same happened with INNAR MARDO. He was pressed by the people of envy and hate to leave his work and positions after the intriques in the formal Bodybuilding Federattion of the Estonian SSR. INNAR MARDO did not succeed to come back in full power again. There were several attemps but he was never back to the former normal situation. Hate and envy of his bodybuilding collegues ruined his life in sport. This information is based on the letters of INNAR MARDO to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS.
Klaipeda bodybuilding was always a „Separate Republic“. And still is. It was in Lithuania, in the U.S.S.R. and Internationally now. It was based on the social and juridical status, on the International level - remember the World Bodybuilding Leaders whom we have mentioned above. International President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS is involved in the work of a number of International organizations which are collaborating with U.N. (United Nations) and U.N.S.E.C.O. (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). Who else was in the same position? The road was long. Much work and studies were needed.
In 2011 the Official Visit of the President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was organized to Vatican. Listening about the Bodybuilding activities during the years of prohibition of this sport in the Socialist Countries the Vatican Congregat Perfect Cardinal J. Em. JOZEF KARDINAL TOMKO (Кардинал Иозеф Томко) was interested very much. Very big interest was shown to the bodybuilding defending petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and the victory that was achieved due to this. J. Em. JOZEF KARDINAL TOMKO positively evaluated our efforts to fight for the Bodybuilding Sport recognition and at once he named DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS as the „disident of the Communist Regime“. For this work done the Vatican Congregat Perfect Cardinal J. Em. JOZEF KARDINAL TOMKO presented the Original Vatican Pontific Medal (Medaglia Ufficiale di Pontificato di Sua Santita Benedetto XVI) to the International President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. Federation EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS (Headquarters State Vatican, Cita del Vaticano, March 29, 2011).
During the last decades DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS had meetings and spoke about various International questions with the President Parliament Austria Professor ALFRED GERSTL (Президент Парламента Австрии профессор Альфред Герстл), the Prime Minister of the Republic Slovakia VLADIMIR MECIAR (премьер министр Словакии Владимир Мечиар), the Prime Minister of the Republic Slovakia ROBERT FICO (премьер министр Словакии Роберт Фицо), President Parliament Republic Slovakia JAN FIGEL (президент Парламента Словакии Ян Фигель), President Parliament Republic Lithuania ARUNAS VALINSKAS (президент Парламента Литвы Арунас Валинскас), Prime Minister Republic Lithuania GEDIMINAS KIRKILAS (премьер министр Литвы Гедиминас Киркилас), Prime Minister Republic Lithuania ALGIRDAS BUTKEVICIUS (премьер министр Литвы Альгирдас Буткявичус) and other High State officials of various Asia and Europe Countries.
Crowning the fifty years of bodybuilding activities of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS Russia journalists call him “The Father of Russia Bodybuilding” («Отец российского культуризма»).
In 2015 at the International contest in front of a number of Members of the Parliament Republic Lithuania the representative of the Government Republic Lithuania ANTANAS VINKUS (Антанас Винкус) named DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS the „Lithuania Embassador for the World“ («Амбассадор Литвы в мире»). Then National Teams of America, Asia, Africa and Europe took part at this event.

1979. “AMBER PRIX INTERNATIONAL”.
What was going on in the U.S.S.R. at the background of the 1979 „Amber Prix International“?
ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS always was seeking career. In sport too. There is nothing bad about this, but he did it in awful ways. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was cheating his friends in sport, he did false votings and he blackmailed his friends against the political powers of the U.S.S.R.. Also he did bad things for those whom he did not like in bodybuilding.
Since 1973 bodybuilding was prohibited in the U.S.S.R.. Fighting against this DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS received a a letter with negatyve answer from the U.S.S.R. Minister of Sport. Having no support of bodybuilding friends through his petition to defend prohibited bodybuilding sport DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS reached the Victory. It was unexpected for everybody. It was unexpected for DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS too.
Many those who were afraid to fight against bodybuilding prohibition became active when DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS on his own risk organized successful 1978 “Amber Prix International”. After 1973 it was the first official bodybuilding contest that was done in public in the U.S.S.R.. Petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was presented in Moscow for the highest U.S.S.R. political powers and it opened doors for bodybuilding contests. Since 1978 “Amber Prix International” was the regular unofficial “U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship” („неофициальный Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»).
Before the voyage of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to Moscow ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was against his petition. He was afraid. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS explained, that “all DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS does is on his own risk. This way he will not risk his membership in the Communist Party. If something negative about the reaction of political powers happens ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS will say he did not know anything about the petition”.
After the successful 1978 “Amber Prix International” ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS remembered about the 1968 “U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation” (“Atletinės gimnastikos komisija”, «Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.»). This federation at the F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturiste) times was based as a part of the “U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation” («Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.»). When bodybuilding was prohibited in 1973 the “U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation” stopped it’s work and all five it’s Chairmen left bodybuilding. Basing on the DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS received political permit to organize “Amber Prix International” in Klaipeda ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS wanted the refresh the forgotten “U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation”. It was absurd. The bodybuilding sport was prohibited and someone at the same time wants to set the International Bodybuilding Federation in the U.S.S.R..
DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was alone when everybody refused to support him in writing the petition to defend bodybuilding and to bring it to Moscow. But the achieved victory of the petition opened doors for everybody to develop bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R..
ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. ON TOP AT ANY COST.
ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS wanted to rule the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding. After the success of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS he addressed the former Chairman of the 1968 “U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation” and a known R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз). ROMAN MOROZ was working at the “U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation” at that time. Telling him about the 1978 “Amber Prix International” ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS suggested to refresh the old “U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation”. It seemed unreal as on December, 1977 the U.S.S.R. Minister of Sport issued a new order to make the prosecution of bodybuilding more strict. Anyway the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport through ROMAN MOROZ wanted to control the illegal bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R. and he agreed. Both decided that the Chairman of the federation representing Moscow political power will be ROMAN MOROZ and the secretary will be ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. In order not to be alone they included several statistic persons too. Though ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS already started prosecuting INNAR MARDO he was also included to the member’s list. Formally this organization was a part of the “U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation”. As weightlifters were not interested in bodybuilding in fact ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was ruling the federation alone.
Wishing to be “A hero” in front of Moscow ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS invited several medium level U.S.S.R. weightlifting officials to the 1979 “Amber Prix International” in Klaipeda. It was a humor as ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS had nothing to do with “Amber Prix International” ever. Having guests of the “U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation” the 1979 “Amber Prix” was of two parts – power exercises and evaluation of the body. Everything according the old F.I.H.C. traditions. Without power exercises weightlifting guests of Moscow had nothing common with bodybuilding.
From Moscow to Klaipeda arrived the medium level official of the “U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation” JURIJ SANDALOV (Юрий Сандалов) and the Chairman of the 1963, 1968 and now of the 1979 “U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation” ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз). We want to underline that since 1978 the “Amber Prix International” was the “unofficial U.S.S.R. bodybuilding Championship”. So the level was very high.
Wishing to please the guests of Moscow ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS collected money from bodybuilders and bought for them Lithuanian televisions “Shilelis” («Шилялис»). It was difficult to get these televisions in the U.S.S.R. at those times. It is hard to say what was in mind of ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. From Moscow to Klaipeda came only representatives of the “U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation” and they were not top officers. Bodybuilding was still prohibited in the U.S.S.R.. Even the Ministry of Sport could do nothing as the decision to prohibit bodybuilding came from the highest political powers of the U.S.S.R.. But ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was satisfied by the position of the secretary of the formal federation. This was enough for him then. The federation went on doing nothing real. By the way later ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS went on presenting televisions to Moscow weightlifting officials again and again.

1980. „AMBER PRIX INTERNATIONAL“. WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN SOCIALIST WORLD?
In 1980 bodybuilding still was prohibited in the U.S.S.R. and Socialist Countries. When in 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote the petition to defend prohibited bodybuilding, he personally brought it to Moscow and presented to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers. The achieved victory let start public competitions in Klaipeda (Lithusnian SSR). Until this contests were illegal and without public. The first official bosybuilding contest was the 1978 „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023) which was organized by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Since 1978 the „Amber Prix International“ got the status of the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («Неофициальный чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»).
In 1980 three International bodybuilding contests were organized in the U.S.S.R. and all of the were held in the Lithuanian SSR. One of them was the „Amber Prix International“ which was held in the Palace of Culture of the City Klaipeda. The organizers did not expect so big crowd of spectators. So the doors of the palace were broken by entering crowd at the very beginning.
The second contest was held in Kaunas and that was the „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė“, «Кубок комсомола»). The Category Winners were STANISLAV POLIAKOV (Станислав Поляков, Latvian SSR) and Lithuanians VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS, SAULIUS MISEVICIUS ir EUGENE ZURCEV (Евгений Журцев). The Over All Winner was VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS.
One more contest was organized in Vilnius. That was the competition „Lithuanian SSR versus Hungarian SSR“. Hungarians did not come with strong bodybuildiers and all first places went to the Lithuanians: EUGENE GORELIK (Евгений Горелик), VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS, SAULIUS MISEVICIUS and EUGENE ZURCEV.
In 1980 the traditional „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 - 1989) was not organized in the Estonian SSR. When in 1979 INNAR MARDO (Иннар Мардо, 1946 – 2002) and best U.S.S.R. bodybuilder of that time Estonian OLEV ANNUS returned from competition in Czechoslovakian SSR they guarreled in between. Letters of INNAR MARDO to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS say that OLEV ANNUS wrote bad letters about INNAR MARDO to political powers of the Estonian SSR. Due to this INNAR MARDO lost his gym and his position of the President of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. Also the Communist powers of the Estonian SSR prohibited 1980 „Georg Tenno Momorial“.
The leadership of bodybuilding in the Estonian SSR took OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO. INNAR AMARDO as well as DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS did not stop bodybuilding activities due to the conflicts. Both went on working on their own.
In 1980 separatly from the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR INNAR MARDO and INDREK OTSUS went to „Trener“ contest in the Czechoslovakian SSR. INDREK OTSUS won against the 1975 Over All I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) Europe Champion PETER STACH again and reveived the title of the Over All Winner. The other Winners of the Categories were Czechoslovakians JOZEF GROLMUS, STEFAN JUST and IRZY MRACEK.

It was necessary to post the following to show NABBAs stance with the WFF!
It was discussed at the NABBA Universe congress that NABBA has never had any affiliation with WFF (Lancefield).
NABBA is a lone non profit making amateur organisation,with democracy and a committee that decides any change democratically, we make decisions as a committee and an amalgamation of the two organisations was never voted on or approved.
Nabba has always stood alone.
The WFF (Lancefield) and it’s fake fabricated history of 1968,was set up to organise fitness classes it has no democratic committee, their decisions are made by its President The organisation was set up by Klaus Hoffman and Edmundas Daubaras, in 1995 and not 1968 which is the fake history seen on Wikipedia without any history, it is actually stolen without permission from its organiser Edmundas Daubaras, a competition called the Amber Prix which dates back to 1968 and belongs to Edmundas! Not WFFs history?
Eventually Edmundas and Klause parted ways and if you are bothered to research it, there’s now two WFF federations,neither of which supports the other, one belonging to Edmundas,the other to Graeme Lancefield, who eventually took over from Klaus Hoffman in 2013. Graeme used his NABBA status to influence and join all NABBA countries to WFF (Lancefield) and eventually without democracy joined it to the Nabba name , no votes were ever taken.and I have the evidence of the true history if anyone cares to see it ! When the reigns of the Nabba Presidency were handed to me, It was my duty to the members to be loyal to Nabba and assist its members to do my best for its future and remain one of the best, certainly the most historic,authentic and oldest bodybuilding federation in the world!
Without prejudice and from what I see and now know about the WFF (Lancefield), I rightly started asking questions, about the authenticity of the WF F(Lancefield) and its 1968 history! Nabba is transparent and does not fabricate, invent,make up lies or dictate to its members, we do not support the way in which the WFF (Lancefield) is managed! We at the original NABBA are all in agreement and we have asked for all Nabba countries to remove the Nabba name and logo from any WFF promotion! So please do not use my photo alongside any WFF (Lancefield) promotions and please respect our decision to stand alone!
We have no problem in countries wanting to stay affiliated to both federations, but it has to be done separately.

We will not go into details of the W.F.F. history. We has spoken about it widelly before. During the fivety years of the International work the W.F.F. left a number of false persons. Some of them were from Lithuania and twenty years ago they had to leave the W.F.F. - International due to the intriques and jealousy. Then they unsuccessfully tried to work with I.F.B.B. Lithuania and after joined the Intternational Federation of Homosexual Bodybuilders. Some of them were from Latvia and ten years ago they had to leave the W.F.F. - International when being drunk during the W.F.F. contest in front of the Major City Prague (Czech) behaved awfully and made problems for the W.F.F. federation. Also the Latvians was the reason when a number of athletes had to go to hospital under surgery operation due the false „supplements“ the mentioned Latvians were producing and selling to the sportsmen (we have documents about this). These presonalities never did any strategic International work, they have never did anything sufficient Internationally during their lives. They were only the observers to the Global historic work that was done by other persons. It seems like a humour when now these persons try to make false W.F.F. - International history and try to present it in public.

WHO IN U.S.S.R. COULD THINK ON INTERNATIONAL LEVEL?
ROLE OF PERSONALITY IN LIFE AND SPORT.
Everyone‘s personality depends on many items. One of them is – basing on which position a personality analizes all happenings. We mean bodybuilders, of course. Do you think of this as a sportsman, as a trainer or organizer or you think as an International Leader? Specialists of our sport scrutinize the same documents and the same basics but everybody of them evaluate the same items on a different way. Then we may look if this specialist is of a local level or he represents the International one. The specialist must get himself above the happenings of his time and he must look on everything like a flying bird high in the sky. Otherwise he can not understand waht is going on.
In the U.S.S.R. there were only few personalities who could think wide in the very beginning of bodybuilding. The representatives of various regions of the U.S.S.R. mostly were thinking in a narrow way. For example, Tiumen gym trainer JEVGENIJ KOLTUN (Евгений Колтун, R.S.F.S.R.) always represented a gym level and nothing more. The same was with a Kaliningrad trainer JURIJ SMOLIAKOV (Юрий Смоляков, R.S.F.S.R.) and with a Severodvinsk trainer the U.S.S.R. Champion ALEKSANDR LEMECHOV (Александр Лемехов, R.S.F.S.R.). The same was with a Leningrad gym trainer VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин, R.S.F.S.R.). A representative of Riga (Latvian SSR) FELIKS SAJKOVSKIJ (Феликс Сайковский) and nearly all representatives of the Lithuanian SSR were on the same local level of understanding. There were no more active bodybuilding organizers in the U.S.S.R. at that time but only those we mentioned only. The exception could be the General Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS (Романас Калинаускас). How we can understand this „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ when bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R. is prohibited? It had totally no power. But unfortunatelly all activities of ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS were done through intrigues and blackmailing of his sport friends to the Communist political powers. Knowing no foreign languages ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was separated from the World and could not understand the International process. Another exceptional person was INNAR MARDO (Иннар Мардо, 1946 – 2002, Tallinn, Estonian SSR). He also did not know any foreign language and worked only in Estonia. Even to do anything on the U.S.S.R. level he had no interest. But on regular basis organized by INNAR MARDO „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 – 1989, Tallinn, Estonian SSR) contests gave him a huge prestige and respect of others. One more exception was DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. During the period of bodybuilding prohibition he organized illegal „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023, Klaipeda, Lithuanian SSR) contests in 1974, 1975, 1976 and in 1977. Wishing to defend bodybuilding sport DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS for several years was in correspondence with the Ministry of Sport of the U.S.S.R. („U.S.S.R. Goskomsport“, Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.). Finally received from the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport a negatyve answer DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote a bodybuilding defending petition and personally brought it to Moscow. He presented the petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers: to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.), to the U.S.S.R. Supreme Council (Верховный Совет С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. Ministry Council (Совет Министров С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. cental political newspapers „Pravda“ («Правда») and „Izvestija“ («Известия»). In 1978 due to the petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS the U.S.S.R. political powers gave him permition to organize „Amber Prix International“ in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR).
Leaders do not like a stable life. A Leader of any kind has courage and resposibility. Leaders always seek the result end never doubt if they will not succeed. At the same time the majority does nothing. They sit in silence. So who was the bodybuilding Leader in the U.S.S.R.? The very similar to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS life was of his friends in sport: the President I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) BEN WEIDER, also the similar way of life was of the President N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association) OSCAR HEIDENSTAM and W.A.B.B.A. (World Amateur Body Building Association) President SERGE NUBRET. The same similar way was of the General Secretary F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturiste) International OSCAR STATE.
Not knowing foreign languages narrowed possibilities of INNAR MARDO, but DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS assisted and helped him always. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS did not know any foreign language and he always worked to be close to the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport. To say more he did his best to be close to the U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation (Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.). That were his top items for respect and loyality. But what he could get out of this when bodybuilding was prohibited in the U.S.S.R.? Just nothing.
While studying English and German philology at the Vilnius State University DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS did several attempts to unite gyms of Vilnius City. Nobody else never tried to do this. Anyway bodybuilding was prohibited in the U.S.S.R. and bodybuilders were afraid to do anything.
It is easy to speak when the work is done and everything goes smoothly. But at the moment to fight agaist bodybuilding prohibition no one supported DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. No one. Today being already old many former U.S.S.R. bodybuilding organizers and bodybuilders try to „be Facebook friends“ of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Fine. But where they were at the hard times of risky fighting?
During the fifty years of his bodybuilding activities there was a number of „deputies“ and assistants of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Many wanted to take the place of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and to go on doing the same. No one succeeded.
Many disliked the stormy activities of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Especially when he succeeded in his work. And he did. Having no wish to get into the intrigues of such people DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS got into the Vilnius State University in 1979 again. This time DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS studied law after he received the speciality of the phylology before. And again he succeeded. The same happened with INNAR MARDO. He was pressed by the people of envy and hate to leave his work and positions after the intriques in the formal Bodybuilding Federattion of the Estonian SSR. INNAR MARDO did not succeed to come back in full power again. There were several attemps but he was never back to the former normal situation. Hate and envy of his bodybuilding collegues ruined his life in sport. This information is based on the letters of INNAR MARDO to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS.
Klaipeda bodybuilding was always a „Separate Republic“. And still is. It was in Lithuania, in the U.S.S.R. and Internationally now. It was based on the social and juridical status, on the International level - remember the World Bodybuilding Leaders whom we have mentioned above. International President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS is involved in the work of a number of International organizations which are collaborating with U.N. (United Nations) and U.N.S.E.C.O. (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). Who else was in the same position? The road was long. Much work and studies were needed.
In 2011 the Official Visit of the President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was organized to Vatican. Listening about the Bodybuilding activities during the years of prohibition of this sport in the Socialist Countries the Vatican Congregat Perfect Cardinal J. Em. JOZEF KARDINAL TOMKO (Кардинал Иозеф Томко) was interested very much. Very big interest was shown to the bodybuilding defending petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and the victory that was achieved due to this. J. Em. JOZEF KARDINAL TOMKO positively evaluated our efforts to fight for the Bodybuilding Sport recognition and at once he named DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS as the „disident of the Communist Regime“. For this work done the Vatican Congregat Perfect Cardinal J. Em. JOZEF KARDINAL TOMKO presented the Original Vatican Pontific Medal (Medaglia Ufficiale di Pontificato di Sua Santita Benedetto XVI) to the International President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. Federation EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS (Headquarters State Vatican, Cita del Vaticano, March 29, 2011).
During the last decades DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS had meetings and spoke about various International questions with the President Parliament Austria Professor ALFRED GERSTL (Президент Парламента Австрии профессор Альфред Герстл), the Prime Minister of the Republic Slovakia VLADIMIR MECIAR (премьер министр Словакии Владимир Мечиар), the Prime Minister of the Republic Slovakia ROBERT FICO (премьер министр Словакии Роберт Фицо), President Parliament Republic Slovakia JAN FIGEL (президент Парламента Словакии Ян Фигель), President Parliament Republic Lithuania ARUNAS VALINSKAS (президент Парламента Литвы Арунас Валинскас), Prime Minister Republic Lithuania GEDIMINAS KIRKILAS (премьер министр Литвы Гедиминас Киркилас), Prime Minister Republic Lithuania ALGIRDAS BUTKEVICIUS (премьер министр Литвы Альгирдас Буткявичус) and other High State officials of various Asia and Europe Countries.

EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS the „Lithuania Embassador for the World“ («Амбассадор Литвы в мире»). Then National Teams of America, Asia, Africa and Europe took part at this event.

Looking from the juridical point of view the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International is no doubt the Real World Bodybuilding Leader.
Crowning it‘s 56 years of International Bodybuilding activities, the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. works on the Unique Global International Bodybuilding Project - the „World Bodybuilding Encyclopedia“ («Энциклопедия всемирного культуризма», “Pasaulio kultūrizmo enciklopedija”).
Part One of the Encyclopedia covering period since ancient times to 1973 is finished. Now we are working on the Second Book covering period of time since 1973 until 1991.

Sweden bodybuilder ANDREAS CAHLING (1952) since 1976 until 2016 participated at the twenty A.A.U., I.F.B.B. and N.A.B.B.A. competitions. Best result of ANDREAS CAHLING was the first place at the 1980 I.F.B.B. “Mr. International”.

WORLD BODYBUILDING HISTORY.
1981. SOCIALIST WORLD BODYBUILDING NEWS.
In 1981 bodybuilding was still prohibited in the Socialist countries. Political powers controlled illegal bodybuilding through the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») which was reset at the „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ («Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.») in 1979. That was based on the old F.I.H.C. (F.H.C., „Federation Internationale Halterophile”) federation traditions.
The year of 1981 started with the traditional „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023) contest in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). Since 1978 this contest was accepted as the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). We should underline that the possibility of the public competitions in the U.S.S.R. was got only after the victorial visit of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to Moscow. Then he wrote and personally brought the bodybuilding defending petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers in Moscow and received permittion to organize bodybuilding contests. The category winners of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were EUGENE GORELIK (Евгений Горелик, Lithuanian SSR), INDREK OTSUS (Estonian SSR), SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (Lithuanian SSR) and OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR). The Over All Winner was SAULIUS MISEVICIUS. There were two teams of the Estonian SSR at the competition. One was of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR led by OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO. Another one was of INNAR MARDO. Before the contest the Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS instructed the International Judges not to alow OLEV ANNUS to win the Over All Champion‘s title again. The „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ knew that OLEV ANNUS plans to emigrante from the U.S.S.R. to Finland. That was a terrible action of him against the Communist regime. How the Over All U.S.S.R. bodybuilding champion can do this? So OLEV ANNUS lost the title. The head Judge of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ was a friend of OLEV ANNUS. Several days after the competition he canceled the results of „Amber Prix International“ and in official letter asked the Chairman of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз) to aprove his decission. ROMAN MOROZ was against the decission and the results of the contest remained unchanged. At the saame time OLEV ANNUS wrote letters to the Socialist press saying about bad judging and explaining that the results of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were canceled.
We have no information about 1981 intriques in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1979 after the quarell OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO overturned INNAR MARDO (Иннар Мардо, 1946 – 2002) and took the leadership in the federation. Then ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was supporting the replacing of INNAR MARDO. INNAR MARDO popularity among U.S.S.R. bodybuilders and the results he achieved at the contests in the Socuialist countries made mad ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. In 1981 the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 - 1989) was organized in „Tallinn Olympic Pirita Centre“ (Талинский олимпийский центр Пирита») by INNAR MARDO without the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. At that time the director of this centre was Lithuanian PRANAS MICKEVICIUS. In 1981 the above mentioned PRANAS MICKEVICIUS overturned OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO and took the leadership in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR.
In 1981 a meeting of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Всесоюзная комиссия атлетической гимнастики») was held in Moscow (R.S.F.S.R.). Bodybuilding was still prohibited but a number of public competitions were held in Lithuanian SSR and in the Estonian SSR. Those contests were organized with the political background. For example it was the „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė», «Кубок комсомола») in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR). As the activities of the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ were only formal, it was rulled by the Chairman and former R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ and secretary ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. As ROMAN MOROZ was fare away from bodybuilding sport in fact the real Chairman was ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. The meeting in Moscow made no important decisions. Only several statistic persons were changed. Among new statistic persons was one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding pioneers weightlifter GENADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин). ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was inviting DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to join his work. The above mentioned meeting spoke about OLEV ANNUS letters to the Socialist Sport Press and accused him about this. The „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ prohibited OLEV ANNUS to participate at any U.S.S.R. bodybuilding competitions.
in 1981 at the International competition „Trener“ (Czechoslovakian SSR) only Estonian INDREK OTSUS represented the U.S.S.R.. He bacema the Over All Winner again.

GLIMPSES OF THE BODYBUILDING HISTORY.
HOW IT WAS IN REAL.
In 1959 the USA „Father of Weightlifting“ BOB HOFFMAN through the International Weightlifting Federation F.I.H.C. first time brought bodybuilding sport to the Socialist Countries. That was the World Weightlifting Championship in Warszawa - the Capital of the Polish Democratic Republic. Then F.I.H.C. organized the traditional bodybuilding „Mr. Universe“ in Warszawa too.
1963. FIRST SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL BODYBUILDING ORGANIZATION.
They say, that in the sixties of the last Century the bodybuilding pioneers in the U.S.S.R. were Estonian GEORG TENNO (Георг Тенно) and Russian ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз). In 1963 under the influence of BOB HOFFMAN the first International Bodybuilding Organization in the Socialist Countries (Всесоюзная комиссия по атлетической гимнастике) was established by the Ministry of Sport U.S.S.R. (Goskomsport U.S.S.R.). It was set at the U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation then. To control the bodybuilding sport the Ministry appointed the Chairman of this organization. That was a friend of BOB HOFFMAN a known U.S.S.R. weightlifting authority ROMAN MOROZ. The mentioned organization did not work as there were no real bodybuilders in the U.S.S.R. at that time.
It was nothing special when a bodybuilding organization was established at the weightlifting federation of any country. International Weightlifting Federation F.I.H.C. since 1947 ruled the official World Bodybuilding sport. The F.I.H.C. and the A.A.U. were members of the International Olympic Committee. In fact using the positions in F.I.H.C. and A.A.U. the official World and U.S.A. bodybuilding sport was ruled by BOB HOFFMAN. Until 1969 no one could fight with BOB HOFFMAN when he had the I.O.C. members F.I.H.C. and A.A.U. behind.
Later in 1968 the mentioned International Bodybuilding Organization of the Socialist Countries was renewed. It happened during an International Contest in Lithuania. Five members of the Executive Council ruled the Organization: Russians ROMAN MOROZ, VLADIMIR PETROV, GENADIJ BALDIN and Lithuanians VALERIJ KORESHKOV and VYTAUTAS ZUMERIS (Роман Мороз, Владимир Петров, Геннадий Балдин, Валерий Корешков, Витаутас Зумерис).
1966. FIRST SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL CONTEST.
First pioneers of bodybuilding in Russia were weightlifters MARK SHAFRAN (Марк Шафран), ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз), the first in the Socialist Countries World Weightlifting Champion GRIGORIJ NOVAK (Григорий Новак), Estonian GEORG TENNO and GENNADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин). In 1966 a bodybuilding contest was organized in Moscow (Russia) where the winner was IGOR PETRUCHIN (Игорь Петрухин). Also in 1966 the first in the Socialist Countries International Bodybuilding competition was organized in Vilnius (Lithuania). The Winners were IGOR PETRUCHIN (Russia), RYTIS MACIJAUSKAS and KLEMENSAS ALSHAUSKAS (both Lithuania).
TRADITIONAL BODYBUILDING CONTESTS.
During the bodybuilding prohibition in the Socialist World (1973 – 1987) only few brave persons dared to organize competitions. There were only two regular International Bodybuilding Contests in all Socialist World: the „Amber Prix International“ (1968 – 2021, „Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз») organized in Lithuania by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and „Georg Tenno Memorial“ (1971 – 1989, «Мемориал Георга Тэнно») organized in Estonia by INNAR MARDO. „Amber Prix International“ since 1978 until 1988 was unofficial „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный «чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»)..
PROHIBITION OF BODYBUILDING.
In 1973 the prosecution and prohibition of bodybuilding started in the Socialist World. Every country went it‘s own original way. In some countries contests were still organized with huge difficulties. First of all in Czechoslovakia. The National Champion of Czechoslovakia in 1973 was LADISLAV KLERI, MILAN POLELKA was at the second place and JAN CERNY was at the third place.

EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS („Doctor Honoris Causa“, DSc.). This is highest academic scientific degree. Then the rector of the oldest Ukraine University „Stavropigeon“ (Ставропигеон) DSc. JAROSLAV KMIT (Др. Ярослав Кмит) in front of Ukraine academic society led the ceremony.

1982. SOCIALIST WORLD BODYBUILDING NEWS.
Bodybuilding sport was still prohibited but bodybuilders of the Socialist countries felt comming „perestrojka“.
The year of 1982 traditionally started in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR) with „Amber Prix International‘ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023). We would like to underline that since 1978 „Amber Prix International“ was the „unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). Best U.S.S.R. bodybuilders participated at thie event. It became possible after when in 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS (Др. Эдмундас Даубарас) wrote bodybuilding defending petition and personally brought it to the highest U.S.S.R. political Institutions in Moscow (read about this in various languages in details in our articles at the www.wff.lt).
Bodybuilders of six countries took part at the 1982 „Amber Prix International“. The Over All Winners were RICARDAS PETRAUSKAS (Juniors) and EUGENE GORELIK (Евгений Горелик, Main Categories). Both from the Lithuanian SSR.
In 1982 bodybuilding organizers of the Estonian SSR still were fighting in between. Brothers ARRO left our sport, OLEV ANNUS emigrated to Finland. Though the Chairman of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR was PRANAS MICKEVICIUS but bodybuilders supported INNAR MARDO (Иннар Мардо, 1946 – 2002).
There were two teams of the Estonian SSR at the 1982 „Amber Prix International“. One was of PRANAS MICKEVICIUS and another of INNAR MARDO.
Traditional 1982 „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («Мемориал Георга Тенно», 1971 – 1989) in Tallinn (Estonian SSR) was not the best. Only 31 bodybuilders participated at the competition. The Over All Winners were Lithuanians RAIMONDAS PETRAITIS (Juniors) and SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (Main Categories).
1982 „Comsomok Cup“ («Кубок комсомола», „Komjaunimo taurė“) was organized in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR). Junior Category Winners were Lithuanians RAIMONDAS PETRAITIS, SAULIUS MIKUCKIS, EDMUNDAS GUDAVICIUS, Main Category Winners were STANISLAV POLIAKOV (Станислав Поляков, Latvian SSR) and Lithuanians ALGIRDAS IVANAUSKAS, SAULIUS MISEVICIUS, ALBERTAS BESAKIRSKAS.
Two teams of the Estonian SSR went to 1982 „Trener“ contest in the Czechoslovakian SSR. One was led by PRANAS MICKEVICIUS and another by INNAR MARDO. First time bodybuilders of the Lithuanian SSR took part at this competition. The Category Winners were Lithuanians EUGENE GORELIK, VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS, SAULIUS MISEVICIUS and LUBOMIR MATEJICKA from the Czechoslovakian SSR. The Over All Winner was SAULIUS MISEVICIUS.
In 1982 a representative of the U.S.S.R. first time visite I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) World Championship. It was held in Belgium. That was secretary of the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («неофициальная «Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. For this he had to fool the U.S.S.R. officials. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS managed to get into a cruise ship to Europe Countries. This way he reached Belgium and attended the World Championship. The time of cruise and championship was the same. As told by ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS the organizers met him warmly. But knowing no foreign languages he could make pictures with I.F.B.B. President BEN WEIDER nad ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER. Nothing more. But after meeting represntatives of Czechoslovakia SSR ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS communicated with then in Russian free. When competition ended ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS received zero attention and was left alone. Then at the 1982 I.F.B.B. World Championship winners were: USA bodybuilders JAMES GAUBERT, DALE RUPLINGER, LEE HANEY and Turkish AHMET ENUNLU.
In 1989 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS clearly understood that ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS does not understand any foreign language. During active correspondance and a number of personal meetings with BEN WEIDER DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS bacame a real friend of him. In 1989 as a friend BEN WEIDER invited DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to Paris (France). The 1989 I.F.B.B. World Championships were held in Paris at that time. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS took ROMANAS KALINAUSTAS together. During a number of long lasting discussions DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and BEN WEIDER learned about the total unintelligence of ROMANAS KALUNAUSKAS in knowing languages. He totally was not understanding about what both friend were talking.
It was extremelly dificult to go to Capitalist countries at the Socialist times. For an ordinary people it was impossible. During the eight and nineth decades of the last century of all Socialist countries only a bodybuilding trainer LUDEK NOSEK (Marianske Lazne, Czechoslovakian SSR) had a privilege to travel to Capitalist countries constantly. For many years he was the organizer of the „Sandow“ contest. Wife of LUDEK NOSEK was working as a stewardess on International flights of the airlines of the Czechoslovakian SSR. Her work permitted to go to any of the World countries with her husbund once a year. This way representing National Bodybuilding Federation of the Czechoslovakian SSR LUDEK NOSEK was present at many I.F.B.B. World Championships that were held in various Capitalist countries.

HIGHEST INTERNATIONAL BODYBUILDING ADVISORY COUNCIL.
56 years working W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International is directly connected with the „Amber Prix International“ («Янтарный приз», „Gintarinia prizas“, 1968 - 2023) contest. „Amber Prix International“ is one of the World‘s oldest traditional historic competition still organized in the World. The value of the „Amber Prix International“ was alvays evident and always many known sport organizers of various Countries use to be present there.
Through all history of the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. good relations of the International W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. President DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and the historic bodybuilding leaders of the all main traditional International Bodybuilding organizations were in the background. And that were the Owner and the President of International I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) BEN WEIDER, the President of N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association) OSCAR HEIDENSTAM, the President of W.A.B.B.A. (World Amateur Body Building Association) International SERGE NUBRET.
There were moments in the history of the World Bodybuilding when the International leaders connected DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS for friendly help and assistance.
In 1970 at the I.F.B.B. Belgrade (Yugoslavia) International Congress SERGE NUBRET was appointed to the position of the I.F.B.B. Vice President. In 1976 SERGE NUBRET set another International organization of W.A.B.B.A. as he explains „to fight with the I.F.B.B.“. Then the conflict between BEN WEIDER and SERGE NUBRET reached the highest point in the Court. Then in 1985 SERGE NUBRET sent to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS twenty pages of the confident I.F.B.B. documents asking to support him. That was very personal information about BEN WEIDER and we never published this anywhere.
The I.F.B.B. International and the I.F.B.B. U.S.S.R. (established in 1987) as well always were suffering of inside intriques and conflicts. First let us remember the famous weightlifting Olympic Champion JURIJ VLASOV (Юрий Власов) and how badly he was treated when he was elected to the position of the President of the U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation. In 1991 President of the U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation VASILIJ CHAIKOVSKI (Василий Чайковский) was removed from his position by VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин). Feeling frustrated of this unfair action VASILIJ CHAIKOVSKIJ imediatelly came to Lithuania. He was looking for support of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS in his relations with BEN WEIDER.
Fifteen years ago understanding that International Bodybuilding Sport is in awful situation WEIDER brothers JOE and BEN sold their magazines and „Olympia“ Contest and got rid of the I.F.B.B.. After this WAYNE DE MILIA was dismissed from the position of the Director of the I.F.B.B. Professional League. Until that he run this position for many years. Then in 2006 WAYNE DE MILIA established his own organization „Pro Division Inc.“ and addressed DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to support him. From that time we have heard nothing about „Pro Division Inc.“.
Fighting in between in 2009 and in 2015 I.F.B.B. split two times. First I.F.B.B. was divided between assistant of BEN WEIDER Spanish RAFAEL SANTONJA and the I.F.B.B. Vice President PAUL CHUA from Singapore. At that moment PAUL CHUA was supported only by fifty Asia and Arab Countries. At that time they had idea even to join the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International. Then PAUL CHUA and Sheikh of UAE AL SHAFAR came to London (U.K.) to fight with RAFAEL SANTONJA in the Court. PAUL CHUA addressed DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to support him, but DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS could not come to London as there was European Championship in Lithuania at that time. Also PAUL CHUA and Sheikh AL SHAFAR could not come to Lithuania as they had no E.U. visas. The deal was closed. Some time later PAUL CHUA and the I.F.B.B. Lower ALEX BAUER (Austria) sent 600 pages of I.F.B.B. juridical and financial documents and asked to publish them. We did it as they asked.
In 1991 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and German KLAUS P.J. HOFFMANN started a new International W.F.F. federation. Both were basing on the since 1968 still lasting history of „Amber Prix International“ and basing on various sport organizations that were connected with it. In 2014 KLAUS P.J. HOFFMANN closed his part of the W.F.F. federation. At the same time part of the W.F.F. International led by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS continued working. In 2005 it was transformed to W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International. Today W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. unites 140 countries that represent all Continents.
Some years ago Australian GRAEME LANCEFIELD established his own W.F.F. federation. To feel important for the International sport GRAEME LANCEFIELD used the history of the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. as his own. Though he still does not know a single historical step of the real W.F.F.. The real W.F.F. International history started in 1968 in Lithuanian SSR.
GRAEME LANCEFIELD started collecting N.A.B.B.A. athletes to his own contests using the N.A.B.B.A. name. N.A.B.B.A. leaders were angry about this. Then in 2018 the President of the N.A.B.B.A. U.S.A. and a famous I.F.B.B. professional bodybuilder EDDIE ROBINSON addressed DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to support N.A.B.B.A. in fighting against unfair behavior of GRAEME LANCEFIELD. After this GRAEME LANCEFIELD continued acting against N.A.B.B.A.. At the beginning of 2020 the President N.A.B.B.A. International and a famous U.K. Professional bodybuilder ED ELWOOD asked DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to support N.A.B.B.A. against GRAEME LANCEFIELD again. To help N.A.B.B.A. we wrote and published a thorough article about this.
Different of other International Bodybuilding Organizations today W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. seeks huge aims to make bodybuilding recognized and respected. Our sport became so much commercial that today we are the only ones to fulfill the old dreams of our friends BEN WEIDER and OSCAR HEIDENSTAM.

On October 1, 2023 the 28-th W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International Europe Championship and traditional „Liepaja Classic“ were held in Liepaja, Republic of Latvia. A number of members of the U.N.E.S.C.O. (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) organization took part at the events. That were the 2023 U.N.E.S.C.O. „Ambassador of Peace“ («Посол Мира Ю.Н.Е.С.К.О. 2023 года»), the Rector of International Sport University (I.S.U., ректор Международного университета спорта), the International W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. President DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS; Journalist, U.N.E.S.C.O. Award Holder, U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Pioneer VALERIJ KORESKOV (Lithuania); famous bodybuilder, U.N.E.S.C.O. Award Holder, Ukraine Bodybuilding Pioneer, Professor of four Universities VASILIJ BESPALENKO (Ukraine).

1983 SOCIALIST BODYBUILDING NEWS.
In general there was nothing extraordinary in socialist bodybuilding in 1983. The bodybuilding sport was still prohibited but the prosecution was not so strong.
It was important that in 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote petition to defend bodybuilding when during the prohibition of bodybuilding everybody was afraid to do something. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS personally brought the petition to Moscow and presented it to the U.S.S.R. highest political institutions including the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist party (Центральный Комитет К.П.С.С. С.С.С.Р.). Due to this the polititians permited to organize in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR) the „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарный приз», 1968 – 2023). 1978 „Amber Prix International“ was the first public competition after the prohibition. This contest for ten years became the „unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). Best U.S.S.R. bodybuilders used to participate at the „Amber Prix International“ every year. Year by years bodybuilding contests were held in other places too. The winners of 1983 „Amber Prix International“ were Lithuanians ROLANDAS BUCINSKAS (Juniors) and VINCAS DUBICKAS (Main Categories).
After „Amber Prix International“ another U.S.S.R. bodybuilding contest was „Georg Tenno Memorial“ (Мемориал Георга тенно», 1971 - 1989) held in Tallinn (Estonian SSR). The Over All Winners of the 1983 „Georg Tenno Memorial“ were ROLANDAS BUCINSKAS (Lithuania SSR) and ARKADI AJU (Estonian SSR). The secretary of the „unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («формальная федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS went on with his intriques. He tried to prohibit ROMNDAS BUCINSKAS to particiapte at the 1983 „Georg Tenno Memorial“. Then DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS trough his friend INNAR MARDO (1946 – 2002 m., Иннар Мардо) ruined his plans and this way ROLANDAS BUCUNSKAS was among „Georg Tenno Memorial“ participants“. By the way, INNAR MARDO until his death was the President of the National Federation W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. Estonia.
In Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) still was organized „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė“, «Кубок комсомола»). Junior Winners were JURIJ POPOV (Юрий Попов, R.S.F.S.R.), VIKTORAS JUCYS, RAIMONDAS KAZAKEVICIUS and the Winners of the Main Categories were STANISLAV PLOIAKOV (Станислав Поляков, Latvian SSR), VINCAS DUBICKAS, SAULIUS MISEVICIUS, RAIMONDAS IVANAUSKAS. All of the Winners were from the Lithuanian SSR except JURIJ POPOV and STANISLAV POLIAKOV.
First time after bodybuilding prohibition a contest was organized by VASILIJ BESPALENKO (Василий Беспаленко) in Lvov (Ukraine SSR). The Over All Winners were ARVYDAS JARUMBAUSKAS (Lithuanian SSR) and the mentioned above STANISLAV POLIAKOV.
Only Estonian SSR presented the U.S.S.R. at the 1983 traditional „Trener“ contest in Czechoslovakian SSR. It was led by PRANAS MICKEVICIUS. Bodybuilders of the Estonian SSR did not support PRANAS MICKEVICIUS as the Estonians still were fighting in between. Bodybuilders were on the side of INNAR MARDO who was overturned by OLEV ANNUS in 1979. Having no athletes this way PRANAS MICKEVICIUS went to Czechoslovakia with SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (Lithuanian SSR).
Of all Socialist countries only bodybuilders of the Czechoslovakian SSR had possibilities to go to the „Western“ Capitalist countries and participate at the I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) contests. Representatives of other Socialist countries could only dream of this. To go abroad everybody needed the official invitation accepted by the Ministries of Foreign affairs of their counttries. This was the „Amber Prix International“ and the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ had extremelly huge importance in the U.S.S.R..
Once the former Prime Minister of the Lithuanian Republic GEDIMINAS KIRKILAS said that Socialist bodybuilding was a kind of resistance to the Communist regime. By the way, GEDIMINAS KIRKILAS was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 2004 W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) World Championship in Vilnius (Lithuanian Republic). We would like to remind that in 2011 the Official meeting of the President W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was held in Vatican. Vatican Congregat Prefect Cardinal J. Em. JOZEF TOMKO speaking about the bodybuilding in the Socialist countries named our activities as „dissidental“ towards the Communist regime. Due to this Vatican Congregat Prefect Cardinal J. Em. JOZEF TOMKO awarded DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS with the Medal of the Vatican Pontific (Medaglia Ufficiale di Pontificato di Sua Santita Benedetto XVI, Headquarters State Vatican, Cita del Vaticano, March 29, 2011).
