BODYBUILDING CIRCUS AROUND THE WORLD.
LOTS OF MICKEY-MOUSE FEDERATIONS.
WE SPEAK WITH ATHLETES.
Forty years ago we were explaining athletes about official sport and about the BASIC questions of various federations. This is ABC of every athlete. Do not be dreamers and learn real matters. As we see many do not like the truth. Sportsmen waist their time, energy, money. They are glad about their “great” achievements at competitions. But - this result for official sport is ZERO. Find yourselves who is guilty - maybe your leaders, maybe trainers, maybe somebody else.
STEP ONE. INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION.
We do not want to offend anybody. All of today working forty International bodybuilding federations play zero role in official recognized sport. That are “mickey - mouse” federations. Just ZERO. Official International Sport organizations do not recognize a single one of them. Let us speak about some of those “federations”. What do You know about Your federation? Since 1990 we came inside of many International Bodybuilding Organizations. Step by step we learned about their zero value in sport. Athletes were cheated and still are cheated.
I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders)
Due to efforts of American BOB HOFFMAN (Robert Collins Hoffman, 1898 – 1985) since 1947 until 1969 World’s official bodybuilding sport was ruled by a member of the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.) International F.I.H.C. (Fédération Internationale Haltérophile et Culturiste) federation.
In 1970 general secretary of F.I.H.C. British OSCAR STATE (Oscar State, Obe, 1911-1984) during Belgrade (Yugoslavia) Congress created the I.F.B.B. sport federation. Until that time I.F.B.B. was a private company and played zero role in official sport. Again due to the efforts of OSCAR STATE in 1971 I.F.B.B. became a member of G.A.I.S.F. (Global Association of International Sports Federations) and ruled World’s official bodybuilding sport until 1998.
In 1998 after two years trial I.F.B.B. was thrown out of the I.O.C.. Since that time bodybuilding is no more sport. Only former Communist Countries and several Asia Countries still recognize and finance National I.F.B.B. federations. Full article about the I.F.B.B. You can find on International Site www.wff.lt
N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association).
After long correspondence with N.A.B.B.A. Chairman OSCAR HEIDENSTAM we were working with N.A.B.B.A. since 1991 until 2005. After some time N.A.B.B.A. Chairman IVAN DUNBAR informed us that N.A.B.B.A. is not an association of federation - it is by law a public club. How officially registered in Lithuania Republic sport federation can be a member of a public club? Sounds childish… After death of OSCAR HEIDENSTAM in 1991 until now N.A.B.B.A. had no another leader like him. Full article about N.A.B.B.A. is already published on International Site www.wff.lt
W.F.F. (World Fitness Federation).
In 1995 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS, German KLAUS HOFFMANN (Klaus P.J.Hoffmann), Austrian PETER PAPULA, Greek ANARGIROS TSOPOURIDIS came to Germany where they established World Fitness Federation (W.F.F. - International). Power zones were set up - KLAUS HOFFMANN took the leadership on the “Western” countries and DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS went on leading “East” countries. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS brought former socialist countries in the game. Supported by the Government Republic Lithuania in 1996, 1997, 1998 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS organized European Championships in Klaipeda, Vilnius and Palanga. At that time there was no official registration of the W.F.F. federation - somehow KLAUS HOFFMANN was against it. The situation did not satisfy us. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS was closely working with the Ministry of Sport of the Lithuanian Republic. According the law we needed official registration. Virtual W.F.F. was nothing. Then in 1998 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS registered official W.F.F. federation and organized the 1998 W.F.F. World Championship in Palanga (Lithuanian Republic). The championship was supported and financed by the Government Republic Lithuania. It was televised by “Eurosport” television. Step by step KLAUS HOFFMANN left the W.F.F. federation. In 2003 he told he can not organize International contests any more. Uniting both parts of the federation the full power of W.F.F. went to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Exceptional prestige of W.F.F. rose up after tremendous 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 W.F.F. World Championships which were held in Vilnius and Klaipeda (Lithuanian Republic). For example - at 2005 W.F.F. World Championship in Vilnius participated 742 athletes from 42 countries. Lithuania Parliament voted to finance 2008 W.F.F. Event in Klaipeda through the separate line in the Budget of the Republic Lithuania. All above mentioned championships were supported and financed by the Government Republic Lithuania. Seeing great growth of the W.F.F. federation KLAUS HOFFMANN stopped connection with the federation and in 2005 registered his own W.F.F. federation in Germany. This federation was closed in 2013.
GAMES OF GRAEME LANCEFIELD.
Several years ago appeared Australian GRAEME LANCEFIELD who was unknown to the International Sport Society. GRAEME LANCEFIELD used the name of W.F.F., our W.F.F. history (working since 1968, “Amber Prix International”, etc.). When we wrote that we will address the International Court, then GRAEME LANCEFIELD stopped using traditional W.F.F. history. But he uses W.F.F. name anyway. Still it is not clear if W.F.F. of GRAEME LANCEFIELD egzists by law or it is only his private games. Anyway there are many not educated athletes who do not know our sport history and who do not know anything about W.F.F. federation. This way GRAEME LANCEFIELD can play his games. Detailed articles about W.F.F. federation will be published in the third part of the “World Bodybuilding Encyclopedia” soon. Look for the information on International Site www.wff.lt .
N.A.C. (National Athletic Committee)
When in 2000 KLAUS HOFFMANN stopped working properly with W.F.F. federation in Germany, several people left German W.F.F. an then appeared N.A.C.. N.A..C. is National German organization. No official International or National Institutions recognize and support N.A.C.. N.A.C. has nothing to do with official sport. Working more that twenty years N.A.C. did nothing noticeable for our sport. All N.A..C. events were made in Europe only. Outside Europe nobody even heard of N.A..C.. Maybe somebody can say what are aims of N.A.C.??? In 2005 in Italy Chairmen N.A.C. addressed President W.F.F. - W.B.B.F. International (World Fitness Federation, World Bodybuilding Federation) DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. They wanted to cooperate activities. DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS refused - there was no future and no sense in that.
N.P.C. (National Physique Committee)
For many decades amateur bodybuilding in USA was ruled by A.A.U. (Amateur Ayhletic Union). Established in 1888 A.A.U. was a member of the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.). In the USA even a member of G.A.I.S.F. (Global Association of International Sports Federations) I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders), federation could not fight against N.P.C.. Remember, in 1970 F.I.H.C. (Fédération Internationale Haltérophile et Culturiste) General Secretary OSCAR STATE in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) created the I.F.B.B. sport federation. Until that time I.F.B.B. was a private company. Finally after discussion with I.F.B.B. President BEN WEIDER a member of A.A.U. JIM MANION left A.A.U. and established N.P.C. in 1983. This way N.P.C. escaped of doping control too. JIM MANION agreed with WEIDER brothers JOE and BEN this way - all World Amateur bodybuilding was ruled by I.F.B.B. of BEN WEIDER and Amateur bodybuilding in USA was ruled by N.P.C. of JIM MANION. At the same time N.P.C. was representing I.F.B.B. in USA. Professional bodybuilding was under JOE WEIDER. N.P.C. had been never recognized by any Official International Sport Organization. In 2015 after death of WEIDER brothers previous agreement had no more power and N.P.C. left the I.F.B.B. of Spanish RAFAEL SANTONJA. RAFAEL SANTONJA was thrown out of America and never appeared there any more. Fighting for money at the moment N.P.C. with it’s contests goes aggressively around the World pushing I.F.B.B. of RAFAEL SANTONJA out of the game.
W.A.B.B.A. (World Amateur Body Building Association).
Several years athletes of Lithuanian Republic participated at W.A.B.B.A. competitions. Lithuanians never organized a single W.A.B.B.A. contest in the country. Collecting 2-3 athletes of other National federations W.A.B.B.A. organizers used to go abroad to compete. In general there were no results in this activities.
W.A.B.B.A. appeared in 1976 after in 1975 I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) President BEN WEIDER because of sexual affairs threw away from his federation his Vice President and famous France bodybuilder SERGE NUBRET. Having no knowledge about International Sport requirements SERGE NUBRET registered only name and logo of W.A.B.B.A.. Nothing was serious and official. Our last information of W.A.B.B.A. is that it belongs to a protein shop of French FABIAN DE BECK. In fact in 1975 it was the first time I.F.B.B. was split and divided. SERGE NUBRET took out of I.F.B.B. a number of National Presidents and Athletes from Asia and Africa countries.
OTHER FEDERATIONS
Looking through 100 years history of bodybuilding we can make some conclusions.
During the last century several decades World was divided into Capitalist (Western) and Socialist (Eastern) parts. Both parts were separated by the “Iron Wall” and did not communicate in between anyway. Bodybuilders of both parts did not communicate too. Also have in mind that bodybuilding was prohibited in the Socialist World since 1973 until 1987.
When Socialist World was ruined in 1995 was created World Fitness Federation (W.F.F. - International) which took the leadership of bodybuilding in some Europe and former Socialist countries. Later International fitness and bodybuilding were separated and since that time fitness was ruled by W.F.F. - International and bodybuilding was ruled by the World Body Building Federation (W.B.B.F. - International).
During the last thirty years appeared about forty “International” bodybuilding federations led by ill minded people. For every clever bodybuilder is evident - if one is not afraid of doping control - there is with it’s law and finance problems in 1970 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) by F.I.H.C. (Fédération Internationale Haltérophile et Culturiste) General Secretary OSCAR STATE created International Federation of Body Builders (I.F.B.B.); when one do not want doping control - there is old traditional National Amateur Body Building Association (N.A.B.B.A.). Everything is clear as daylight - the three above mentioned organizations rule International bodybuilding and fitness. Why other bodybuilding federations needed? What are their aims? Seems like childrens game... These federations have never been recognized by any Governmental or International Sport Structure. Their work is of zero value. First we met this nonsense forty years ago when two bodybuilders of Estonian SSR went to Italy to participate at “Europe” Championship. After coming back they kept silence. The reason was - there were only several participants from two countries - Italy and Estonia. The organizer was a private person representing no federation. In 2000 - 2005 Lithuanian bodybuilders were participating at the contests of the International federation of homosexual bodybuilders (today bodybuilders of Republic Poland are active in this field). Ok, anyway we can understand organization like this. From time to time we hear about another misunderstanding - the International Federation of “natural bodybuilders”. Natural bodybuilders are like alcoholics without alcohol... Every day primitive bodybuilders are fooled and cheated.
Since 1999 Italians started to participate at International W.F.F. - W.B.B.F. contests. They organized Italian contest for many years and now they wanted to organize official International contests in Italy. We told them how to create official federation. Now they have logo, they have name and still there is no federation. Organizers of this Italian group used to fight in between. So this way for several years another “International” federation appeared in France. After another Italian fight ten years ago one more “International” federation appeared in Slovenia.
Bodybuilders have problems with brains?
Today many idiotic categories appeared at bodybuilding contests - like bikini, wellness... Whom you are fooling? It is women bodybuilding and be smart - it is bad women bodybuilding. You want to say it is fitness? No - fitness is without doping. All activities with doping is bodybuilding. Do not lie for yourself and for other people. Let these “bikinies” and “welness” bodybuilders participate together with a real bodybuilder... Nonsense - they are weak athletes and they have no chances to participate at normal bodybuilding contests successfully. This is the reason that “bikinies” appeared. With men’s bodybuilding situation is the same. For example - lazy bodybuilders do not train legs. For them we have “Men’s Physique” category. Participants are representing bodybuilding and in fact they are bad bodybuilders. No legs, no calves... In normal bodybuilding fight they have no chances... So what is the value of their wins? Nothing... Weak bodybuilders participate at contests of “mickey - mouse” federations and in “mickey - mouse” categories and they become champions. What is the value of their titles? Nothing... Is anybody really proud of this?

MEETING OF THE WORLD FEDERATION ORGANIZING COMMITTEE.
On May 8, 2026, the organizing committee of the World WFF-WBBF Federation gathered in Klaipėda, Lithuania.
During the meeting, members discussed the recently successful international events and further plans for the federation’s activities. Special attention was given to preparations for the upcoming 37th World Amateur and Professional Championship, which will take place on October 24–25 at the new “Agila” Cultural Center in Neringa. The championship will be held together with the traditional 3rd “Neringa Mayor’s Cup” competition.
In preparation for the World Championship, the federation, together with the International Sport University, will organize an International Coaches and Judges Seminar in Klaipėda on September 27, 2026. Participants of the seminar will receive corresponding international categories.

In preparation for the 37-th WFF-WBBF World Amateur and Professional Championship, which will take place on October 24–25, 2026, at the Neringa “Agila” Cultural Cultural Center, the WFF-WBBF World Federation together with the International Sport University will organize an International Trainers and Judges Seminar in Klaipėda on September 27, 2026.
Participants of the seminar will be awarded corresponding international qualifications.
During the event, new fitness categories will be introduced, athlete evaluation criteria discussed, and important judging issues reviewed. The organizers emphasize their commitment to gradually returning to the classical understanding of bodybuilding based on aesthetics, symmetry, and professionalism.
Part of the seminar lectures and practical sessions are expected to be conducted by a unique guest professor — currently the world’s only old-school professional posing virtuoso.
Final details are now being coordinated, and the organizers expect the program to remain unchanged.

BODYBUILDING – NO LONGER A SPORT?
Who Destroyed Bodybuilding in Lithuania?
Today, the crisis of bodybuilding is openly discussed not only in Lithuania but throughout the world. For many people it has already become obvious why this sport has lost its authority, popularity, and athletic value. Only a few know the real actors behind this process, but today we can calmly look back at history and facts.
The global turning point came around 1990, when professional wrestling magnate Vince McMahon attempted to take over professional bodybuilding and transform it into a commercial entertainment show. At that moment, bodybuilding began rapidly moving away from the principles of traditional sport.
Soon afterward, many of the most famous female professional bodybuilders left the sport forever, including Corinna Everson. This was a clear sign that bodybuilding was fundamentally changing.
Another major blow came in 1998, when the International Olympic Committee refused to recognize the IFBB federation and, consequently, did not recognize bodybuilding as an Olympic sport. From that moment it became clear that bodybuilding had lost any realistic chance of being considered a fully legitimate sport. Although IFBB federations in some countries still receive government funding, in many cases this continues more out of inertia than because of genuine sporting value.
The Situation in Lithuania
For decades Lithuania was one of the strongest bodybuilding nations in Eastern Europe. Today, however, its influence on the international stage has practically disappeared. The bodybuilding community knows very well who is responsible for this situation.
For many years, the Lithuanian IFBB federation publicly attacked other organizations, accusing their athletes of using doping substances. Yet statistics speak for themselves — IFBB athletes themselves have repeatedly appeared in doping scandals, and the list of such cases seems endless.
Because of the current IFBB policies, many real bodybuilders have left the federation. Those who remain usually compete in events where doping control is either weak or purely symbolic.
This was clearly visible at this year’s Lithuanian IFBB Championship in Kėdainiai. Any experienced observer could easily notice that there were practically no athletes on stage representing the idea of natural bodybuilding.
The situation in regional competitions is even more disappointing. At a recent event in Šiauliai, only four bodybuilders and six women of questionable athletic quality participated. This demonstrates not growth, but a deepening crisis.
Alternative Directions
Meanwhile, the level of athletes competing in NAC championships remains relatively high, with some competitors displaying truly international-level conditioning. However, even there the number of participants remains limited.
The international WFF-WBBF federation has chosen a completely different direction. For many years, the federation has been developing original fitness and aesthetic sport disciplines while searching for new formats and audiences.
A few weeks ago, WFF-WBBF competitions held in Klaipėda attracted as many as 289 athletes. This proves that an alternative path may have real potential.
Interestingly, various international organizations are increasingly copying WFF-WBBF ideas. Recently, IFBB organized its first exhibition aerial acrobatic fitness competition in Spain — a discipline that has long existed within the WFF-WBBF system.
When there are no original ideas of your own, copying others becomes the only option.
Can Bodybuilding Recover?
Today, classical bodybuilding worldwide has nearly reached rock bottom. The number of competitors is declining, public interest is fading, and sporting credibility continues to disappear.
However, this does not mean everything is lost.
There are new directions, new disciplines, and a new understanding of aesthetic physical culture. A more modern model must be developed — one that appeals to younger generations, preserves athletic value, and is not confined to the outdated structure of traditional bodybuilding.
The road will not be short, and it will not be easy.
But time will tell — perhaps we will succeed.

THE 37-th WFF-WBBF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IS COMING TO NIDA.
TWO DAYS, 27 HOURS, 300 ATHLETES, 22 INTERNATIONAL JUDGES.
The international events held in Klaipėda on May 1–2, 2026, became an important preparation stage for the upcoming 37th WFF-WBBF World Amateur and Professional Championship. Nearly 300 athletes participated in the competitions, which lasted for 27 hours, while performances were evaluated by 22 international-category judges.
The biggest event of the year will take place in Nida on October 23–25, 2026. That is the 37-th World Amateur and Professional Championship. Due to the exceptionally high number of participants, the championship will be held over three days for the first time. Spectators and athletes can expect new competition categories and an even broader international program.
In preparation for the upcoming World Championship, an international seminar for coaches and judges will also be organized in Klaipėda on September 27, 2026.

During the two-day competition, an impressive 27-hour sports marathon took place, bringing together around 300 athletes. Their performances were evaluated by 22 international-category judges from various countries around the world.
The biggest event of the year will take place in Nida on October 23–25, 2026. Due to the exceptionally high number of participants, the World Championship will, for the first time in the federation’s history, last three full days. Athletes and spectators can expect new competition categories, an even broader international program, and world-class bodybuilding and fitness performances.
As part of the preparations for the World Championship, an international seminar for coaches and judges will also be organized in Klaipėda on September 27, 2026.
Nida 2026 – The World Elite of Bodybuilding and Fitness Meets in Lithuania
It is worth remembering that the now highly popular “Wing Fitness” category was introduced by the World WFF-WBBF Federation back in 2014. The category was first presented by federation professional Jamila Vanessa Toledo from Argentina.
The upcoming World Championship in Nida promises to become one of the most significant international sports events in Lithuania, bringing together the strongest bodybuilding and fitness athletes from around the globe.

As 2028 approaches, the International WFF–WBBF Federation is preparing to commemorate a significant milestone – the 60th anniversary of its international activities. During this period, the organization has grown into a global sports movement, bringing together members from 141 countries across all continents.
Despite the challenges that have affected the world in recent years – including the pandemic, geopolitical tensions, and other international developments – the Federation has maintained active operations, consistently promoting initiatives in sport, physical activity, fitness, and healthy living. Our mission is to provide opportunities for people of all ages and physical abilities to participate in sporting activities while strengthening international cooperation in this field.
The Federation's history is closely linked with Lithuania and its contribution to the development of international sport:
• In 1967, the international tournament “Amber Prix” was established in Lithuania. In 2027, the event will celebrate its anniversary in Klaipėda.
• In 1968, the International Athletic Gymnastics (Bodybuilding) Federation was founded in Lithuania and coordinated the development of this sport in numerous countries.
• During challenging historical periods, the Federation faced various restrictions; however, its community successfully preserved sporting traditions and ensured the continuity of its activities.
• Following 1991, the Federation actively expanded its participation in the international sports movement, developing cooperation with sports organizations and institutions in many countries.
• Since 1999, special attention has been devoted to children's sports through the “Fit-Kid” programs and to the development of sports opportunities for persons with disabilities.
• In 2004, fitness model competitions were introduced into the Federation's event program, attracting broad international interest.
• Since 2024, the Federation has further intensified its activities in fitness, physical activity, and wellness, promoting sport as a means of improving public well-being and quality of life.
The results achieved in recent years confirm the relevance of these activities and the growing public interest in them. In 2026, approximately 300 athletes from various countries participated in the professional “Universe” competition held in Klaipėda, while the European Amateur Championship in Croatia attracted more than 2,000 participants.
Throughout its history, the Federation has sought constructive cooperation with national and local authorities, sports organizations, and public institutions. In many countries, our events have been recognized as a meaningful contribution to promoting physical activity, strengthening international relations, and encouraging healthy lifestyles. In recent years, the Federation's work has received attention and recognition in Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Estonia, India, and other countries.
The forthcoming 60th anniversary represents not only an important historical achievement for our organization but also an opportunity to once again emphasize the importance of sport in strengthening public health, international cooperation, cultural dialogue, and social unity.
We look forward to continuing meaningful cooperation and to contributing, through joint efforts, to the promotion of sport, physical activity, fitness, and healthy living on an international scale.

The 2024 “Amber Prix”
In 2024, the political and economic situation in the world remained largely unchanged. Russia’s war against Ukraine continued, affecting many areas of public life, including sport.
The crisis in bodybuilding also continued to deepen. Lithuania became one of the most evident examples of this process. The national IFBB federation, which had coordinated bodybuilding in Lithuania for many years, gradually distanced itself from traditional bodybuilding. Against the backdrop of recurring doping-control problems and related scandals, the federation faced the risk of losing state funding. Some athletes moved to other organizations, while those who remained increasingly failed to reflect the principles of natural sport. Similar tendencies were observed in other European countries.
The World WFF-WBBF Federation has been searching for solutions to these problems for decades. As early as 2005, Rune Andersson, then Director of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), officially confirmed in writing that the World Fitness Federation had joined the Anti-Doping Code. However, due to substantial financial obligations, the process was never fully completed. This issue remains unresolved today, pending the availability of the necessary funding.
Since the establishment of the World Fitness Federation in 1995, efforts have been made to develop sports disciplines focused on healthy lifestyles, aesthetics, and physical activity. Although the Federation consistently sought to distance itself from the extreme forms of bodybuilding, this proved difficult in practice, as athletes’ muscle mass continued to increase. Since 1999, special attention has been paid to the development of the Fit-Kids program and sports for athletes with disabilities. In 2004, Fitness Model categories were introduced into international competitions.
In 2024, the leadership of the WFF-WBBF Federation made a strategic decision to fundamentally change the direction of its activities. New sporting disciplines were presented and tested at the “World Grand Prix” tournaments in Kandava (Latvia) and Vilkaviskis (Lithuania), at the 16th “Georg Tenno Memorial” in Estonia, at the “Amber Prix” competition in Klaipeda, and at the Universe competition in Nida.
The Federation decided that, while maintaining bodybuilding disciplines until all formal issues concerning cooperation with WADA are resolved, its future focus would be placed on non-doping sports disciplines. To achieve this goal, several new physical activity disciplines were created and introduced, with plans for further expansion in the future. These developments laid the foundation for a sports reform that became fully visible at the 2025 “Amber Prix” competition in Klaipeda.
To discuss the future development of sport, two international congresses were organized in Klaipeda in 2024. During these congresses, eight entirely new sports disciplines were presented, and their judging and evaluation principles, as well as future development prospects, were discussed. In the same year, WFF-WBBF leaders visited Tallinn, Estonia, where joint projects and future cooperation plans were negotiated with representatives of Estonian sports organizations.
Following the 2024 “Amber Prix” tournament, leaders of foreign delegations were officially received at the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania. During the ceremony, organizers and athletes from various countries were awarded the World WFF-WBBF Federation “Honorary Silver Medal” for their contribution to the development of international sports cooperation.

THE 37TH WFF-WBBF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IS COMING TO NIDA
The international events held in Klaipėda on May 1–2, 2026, became an important preparation stage for the upcoming 37th WFF-WBBF World Amateur and Professional Championship.
During the two-day competition, an impressive 27-hour sports marathon took place, bringing together around 300 athletes. Their performances were evaluated by 22 international-category judges from various countries around the world.
The biggest event of the year will take place in Nida on October 24–26, 2026. Due to the exceptionally high number of participants, the World Championship will, for the first time in the federation’s history, last three full days. Athletes and spectators can expect new competition categories, an even broader international program, and world-class bodybuilding and fitness performances.
As part of the preparations for the World Championship, an international seminar for coaches and judges will also be organized in Klaipėda on September 27, 2026.
Nida 2026 – The World Elite of Bodybuilding and Fitness Meets in Lithuania
It is worth remembering that the now highly popular “Wing Fitness” category was introduced by the World WFF-WBBF Federation back in 2014. The category was first presented by federation professional Jamila Vanessa Toledo from Argentina.
The upcoming World Championship in Nida promises to become one of the most significant international sports events in Lithuania, bringing together the strongest bodybuilding and fitness athletes from around the globe.

60 Years of Bodybuilding in Lithuania
What Has Been Truly Significant?
The year 2026 marked the 60th anniversary of organized bodybuilding in Lithuania. During these six decades, the sport has experienced periods of growth and decline, political restrictions and official bans, the restoration of Lithuanian independence, and eventually international recognition.
This time, however, we will not dwell on those historical chapters. We will not discuss the years when bodybuilding was officially banned (1973–1987), nor the struggle for international recognition following the restoration of Lithuania's independence. These topics have already been covered extensively in our previous historical publications.
Instead, let us look at bodybuilding history from another perspective. If we were asked today to identify the events that became true milestones in Lithuanian bodybuilding, which would they be? Which competitions not only took place but also left a lasting mark on history, attracted public attention both in Lithuania and abroad, and contributed to promoting the country's name internationally?
In our opinion, there are only a few.
First and foremost is the "Amber Prix International", first organized in Klaipėda in 1967. Over the decades it has become not only Lithuania's oldest bodybuilding competition but also one of the oldest continuously organized traditional bodybuilding tournaments in the world. Political systems have changed, federations have come and gone, competition rules have evolved, yet the “Amber Prix” has endured. Thousands of athletes from dozens of countries have competed on its stage, making the tournament one of the true symbols of Lithuanian bodybuilding.
Another event frequently mentioned is the "Komsomol Cup," organized in Kaunas beginning in 1979. Without question, it was an important competition during the Soviet period and ranked among Lithuania's major bodybuilding events of that era. Yet today one may reasonably ask: how many people still remember its champions, its history, or its influence on international bodybuilding? Time itself ultimately determines what deserves a permanent place in history.
Following the restoration of Lithuania's independence, entirely new opportunities emerged for organizing major international championships.
In 1996, 1997, and 1998, Lithuania hosted government-supported NABBA European Championships in Klaipėda, Vilnius, and Palanga, followed by the 1998 WFF World Championship. These were landmark sporting events. Lithuania's largest daily newspapers, Respublika and Lietuvos rytas, covered them extensively. Television reports were broadcast by Eurosport, Lithuanian National Television, and LNK Television. Special commemorative magazines were published and distributed both in Lithuania and abroad.
Lithuanian bodybuilding reached an even higher level between 2004 and 2008, when the Government of the Republic of Lithuania supported the organization of WFF-WBBF Amateur and Professional World Championships in Vilnius.
These championships entered bodybuilding history for several reasons. In 2004, for the first time in the history of bodybuilding, a World Championship was broadcast live on the Internet to a global audience. At that time, this represented an exceptional technological achievement.
The 2005 World Championship attracted 742 athletes, remaining one of the largest bodybuilding championships ever organized in terms of participation. The Overall Champions received genuine diamonds as their awards, making it one of the most unique prize presentations in the sport's history.
Each of these championships was accompanied by professionally produced magazines and DVD films, distributed free of charge during international bodybuilding events worldwide. These publications played an important role in promoting Lithuania as an internationally recognized organizer of major bodybuilding competitions.
Special mention should also be made of the anniversary editions of the “Amber Prix”.
The 40th “Amber Prix International” became a national event of exceptional importance. It received official support from the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, while the Parliament approved dedicated funding within the national budget. Lithuanian National Television produced a special report on the event. A trilingual commemorative magazine and DVD were published and distributed internationally. Sports magazines in England, Austria, Argentina, and Russia also featured the championship.
The 50th “Amber Prix International” attracted even greater international attention when it was featured by CNN, bringing the event to a worldwide television audience numbering in the hundreds of millions.
Another fact deserves consideration.
Only recently did we learn that an IFBB World Championship had been held in Kėdainiai two years earlier. However, the event received virtually no coverage from Lithuania's national press or television, and the general public remained largely unaware that such a championship had even taken place.
This naturally raises an important question: is the title "World Championship" alone sufficient for an event to become historically significant?
History is not preserved by official titles alone. It remembers those events that reach society, attract international attention, leave documented evidence, are recorded by the media, appear in books and archives, and continue to be remembered decades later.
Looking Ahead
In 2027, Klaipėda will host the 60th “Amber Prix International”, celebrating sixty consecutive years of one of the world's oldest traditional bodybuilding competitions.
The 2026 tournament welcomed nearly 300 athletes representing ten countries, demonstrating that the competition remains active, respected, and attractive to the international bodybuilding community.
A comprehensive historical volume of nearly 400 pages dedicated to the “Amber Prix” is currently being completed in Lithuanian, English, and Russian. The book brings together archival documents, historical photographs, personal recollections, and authentic records accumulated throughout six decades.
It is expected that the anniversary celebration will gather bodybuilding veterans, former champions, international federation officials, distinguished guests, and representatives of the highest institutions of the Republic of Lithuania. It will provide an appropriate opportunity to honor all those whose dedication helped build the history of Lithuanian bodybuilding.
Conclusions
Sixty years provide sufficient historical perspective to evaluate the development of bodybuilding in Lithuania objectively.
The historical importance of a sporting event is determined not merely by the fact that it took place or by its official title. Its true significance lies in its continuity, international recognition, public visibility, documentary legacy, and its ability to remain in collective memory.
Over the past six decades, hundreds of bodybuilding competitions have been organized in Lithuania. Only a small number, however, have become genuine historical landmarks remembered long after they were held. These are the events that shape the history of the sport, strengthen a nation's international image, and become part of its lasting cultural and sporting heritage.
For this reason, the upcoming 60th “Amber Prix International” is far more than another bodybuilding competition. It symbolizes the entire history of Lithuanian bodybuilding and reminds us that lasting achievements are built not upon isolated victories, but upon decades of consistent work, continuity of tradition, and respect for history itself.

W.F.F. – International / W.B.B.F. – International World Amateur Championship Overall Winners (1990–2025)
For more than three decades, the World Fitness Federation (W.F.F. – International) and the World Bodybuilding Federation (W.B.B.F. – International) have organized World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships, bringing together athletes from dozens of countries around the globe. Throughout the years, these championships have become an important part of international bodybuilding history, while the title of Overall World Champion has remained one of the highest distinctions an amateur bodybuilder can achieve.
From 1990 through 2025, Overall World Championship titles have been won by outstanding athletes representing Europe, Asia, South America, and other continents.
