(World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International unites 140 Country – Members and organizes nearly 60 annual Amateur and Professional International Events World Wide. Looking from the juridical point of view the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International is no doubt the Real World Bodybuilding Leader. We mean sport, not festivals. On May 25, 2024 the 39-th „World Grand Prix“will be organized in historic Kandava City (Republic of Latvia). The organizers hope it will be a tradition and the contest will be held every year in Latvia. It is planned that after the competition the International Bodybuilding Leaders will officially visit the Parliament of the Latvian Republic. INFORMATION. 1980. „AMBER PRIX INTERNATIONAL“. WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN SOCIALIST WORLD? 1980 „AMBER PRIX INTERNATIONAL“ RESULTS. In 1980 bodybuilding still was prohibited in the U.S.S.R. and Socialist Countries. When in 1978 DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote the petition to defend prohibited bodybuilding, he personally brought it to Moscow and presented to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers. The achieved victory let start public competitions in Klaipeda (Lithusnian SSR). Until this contests were illegal and without public. The first official bosybuilding contest was the 1978 „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарныйприз», 1968 – 2023) which was organized by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Since 1978 the „Amber Prix International“ got the status of the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («НеофициальныйчемпионатС.С.С.Р. покультуризму»). In 1980 three International bodybuilding contests were organized in the U.S.S.R. and all of the were held in the Lithuanian SSR. One of them was the „Amber Prix International“ which was held in the Palace of Culture of the City Klaipeda. The organizers did not expect so big crowd of spectators. So the doors of the palace were broken by entering crowd at the very beginning. The second contest was held in Kaunas and that was the „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė“, «Кубоккомсомола»). The Category Winners were STANISLAV POLIAKOV (Станислав Поляков, Latvian SSR) and Lithuanians VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS, SAULIUS MISEVICIUS ir EUGENE ZURCEV (Евгений Журцев). The Over All Winner was VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS. One more contest was organized in Vilnius. That was the competition „Lithuanian SSR versus Hungarian SSR“. Hungarians did not come with strong bodybuildiers and all first places went to the Lithuanians: EUGENE GORELIK (ЕвгенийГорелик), VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS, SAULIUS MISEVICIUS and EUGENE ZURCEV. In 1980 the traditional „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («МемориалГеоргаТенно», 1971 - 1989) was not organized in the Estonian SSR. When in 1979 INNAR MARDO (ИннарМардо, 1946 – 2002) and best U.S.S.R. bodybuilder of that time Estonian OLEV ANNUS returned from competition in Czechoslovakian SSR they guarreled in between. Letters of INNAR MARDO to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS say that OLEV ANNUS wrote bad letters about INNAR MARDO to political powers of the Estonian SSR. Due to this INNAR MARDO lost his gym and his position of the President of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. Also the Communist powers of the Estonian SSR prohibited 1980 „Georg Tenno Momorial“. The leadership of bodybuilding in the Estonian SSR took OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO. INNAR AMARDO as well as DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS did not stop bodybuilding activities due to the conflicts. Both went on working on their own. In 1980 separatly from the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR INNAR MARDO and INDREK OTSUS went to „Trener“ contest in the Czechoslovakian SSR. INDREK OTSUS won against the 1975 Over All I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) Europe Champion PETER STACH again and reveived the title of the Over All Winner. On October 1, 2023 the 28-th Europe Amateur Championship and traditional contest “Liepaja Classic 2023” will be organized at Liepaja Olympic Centre (Republic of Latvia). The organizers hope it will be a tradition and the contest will be held every year. It is planned that the International Bodybuilding Leaders will officially visit the Parliament of the Latvian Republic on October 2. In 2023 it will happen right after the 34-th “World Am-Pro Championship” (September 30, 2023, Klaipeda, Republic Lithuania). INFORMATION. WHO IN U.S.S.R. COULD THINK ON INTERNATIONAL LEVEL? ROLE OF PERSONALITY IN LIFE AND SPORT. Everyone‘s personality depends on many items. One of them is – basing on which position a personality analizes all happenings. We mean bodybuilders, of course. Do you think of this as a sportsman, as a trainer or organizer or you think as an International Leader? Specialists of our sport scrutinize the same documents and the same basics but everybody of them evaluate the same items on a different way. Then we may look if this specialist is of a local level or he represents the International one. The specialist must get himself above the happenings of his time and he must look on everything like a flying bird high in the sky. Otherwise he can not understand waht is going on. In the U.S.S.R. there were only few personalities who could think wide in the very beginning of bodybuilding. The representatives of various regions of the U.S.S.R. mostly were thinking in a narrow way. For example, Tiumen gym trainer JEVGENIJ KOLTUN (ЕвгенийКолтун, R.S.F.S.R.) always represented a gym level and nothing more. The same was with a Kaliningrad trainer JURIJ SMOLIAKOV (ЮрийСмоляков, R.S.F.S.R.) and with a Severodvinsk trainer the U.S.S.R. Champion ALEKSANDR LEMECHOV (АлександрЛемехов, R.S.F.S.R.). The same was with a Leningrad gym trainer VLADIMIR DUBININ (ВладимирДубинин, R.S.F.S.R.). A representative of Riga (Latvian SSR) FELIKS SAJKOVSKIJ (ФеликсСайковский) and nearly all representatives of the Lithuanian SSR were on the same local level of understanding. There were no more active bodybuilding organizers in the U.S.S.R. at that time but only those we mentioned only. The exception could be the General Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («ФедерациякультуризмаС.С.С.Р.») ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS (РоманасКалинаускас). How we can understand this „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ when bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R. is prohibited? It had totally no power. But unfortunatelly all activities of ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS were done through intrigues and blackmailing of his sport friends to the Communist political powers. Knowing no foreign languages ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was separated from the World and could not understand the International process. Another exceptional person was INNAR MARDO (ИннарМардо, 1946 – 2002, Tallinn, Estonian SSR). He also did not know any foreign language and worked only in Estonia. Even to do anything on the U.S.S.R. level he had no interest. But on regular basis organized by INNAR MARDO „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («МемориалГеоргаТенно», 1971 – 1989, Tallinn, Estonian SSR) contests gave him a huge prestige and respect of others. One more exception was DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. During the period of bodybuilding prohibition he organized illegal „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарныйприз», 1968 – 2023, Klaipeda, Lithuanian SSR) contests in 1974, 1975, 1976 and in 1977. Wishing to defend bodybuilding sport DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS for several years was in correspondence with the Ministry of Sport of the U.S.S.R. („U.S.S.R. Goskomsport“,ГоскомспортС.С.С.Р.). Finally received from the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport a negatyve answer DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote a bodybuilding defending petition and personally brought it to Moscow. He presented the petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers: to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.), to the U.S.S.R. Supreme Council (Верховный Совет С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. Ministry Council (Совет Министров С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. cental political newspapers „Pravda“ («Правда») and „Izvestija“ («Известия»). In 1978 due to the petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS the U.S.S.R. political powers gave him permition to organize „Amber Prix International“ in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). Leaders do not like a stable life. A Leader of any kind has courage and resposibility. Leaders always seek the result end never doubt if they will not succeed. At the same time the majority does nothing. They sit in silence. So who was the bodybuilding Leader in the U.S.S.R.? The very similar to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS life was of his friends in sport: the President I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) BEN WEIDER, also the similar way of life was of the President N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association) OSCAR HEIDENSTAM and W.A.B.B.A. (World Amateur Body Building Association) President SERGE NUBRET. The same similar way was of the General Secretary F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturiste) International OSCAR STATE. WORLD BODYBUILDING HISTORY. 1981. SOCIALIST WORLD BODYBUILDING NEWS. In 1981 bodybuilding was still prohibited in the Socialist countries. Political powers controlled illegal bodybuilding through the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») which was reset at the „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ («Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.») in 1979. That was based on the old F.I.H.C. (F.H.C., „Federation Internationale Halterophile”) federation traditions. The year of 1981 started with the traditional „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарныйприз», 1968 – 2023) contest in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). Since 1978 this contest was accepted as the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). We should underline that the possibility of the public competitions in the U.S.S.R. was got only after the victorial visit of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to Moscow. Then he wrote and personally brought the bodybuilding defending petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers in Moscow and received permittion to organize bodybuilding contests. The category winners of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were EUGENE GORELIK (ЕвгенийГорелик, Lithuanian SSR), INDREK OTSUS (Estonian SSR), SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (Lithuanian SSR) and OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR). The Over All Winner was SAULIUS MISEVICIUS. There were two teams of the Estonian SSR at the competition. One was of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR led by OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO. Another one was of INNAR MARDO. Before the contest the Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS instructed the International Judges not to alow OLEV ANNUS to win the Over All Champion‘s title again. The „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ knew that OLEV ANNUS plans to emigrante from the U.S.S.R. to Finland. That was a terrible action of him against the Communist regime. How the Over All U.S.S.R. bodybuilding champion can do this? So OLEV ANNUS lost the title. The head Judge of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ was a friend of OLEV ANNUS. Several days after the competition he canceled the results of „Amber Prix International“ and in official letter asked the Chairman of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMAN MOROZ (РоманМороз) to aprove his decission. ROMAN MOROZ was against the decission and the results of the contest remained unchanged. At the saame time OLEV ANNUS wrote letters to the Socialist press saying about bad judging and explaining that the results of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were canceled. We have no information about 1981 intriques in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1979 after the quarell OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO overturned INNAR MARDO (ИннарМардо, 1946 – 2002) and took the leadership in the federation. Then ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was supporting the replacing of INNAR MARDO. INNAR MARDO popularity among U.S.S.R. bodybuilders and the results he achieved at the contests in the Socuialist countries made mad ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. In 1981 the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («МемориалГеоргаТенно», 1971 - 1989) was organized in „Tallinn Olympic Pirita Centre“ (Талинский олимпийский центр Пирита») by INNAR MARDO without the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. At that time the director of this centre was Lithuanian PRANAS MICKEVICIUS. In 1981 the above mentioned PRANAS MICKEVICIUS overturned OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO and took the leadership in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1981 a meeting of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Всесоюзная комиссия атлетической гимнастики») was held in Moscow (R.S.F.S.R.). Bodybuilding was still prohibited but a number of public competitions were held in Lithuanian SSR and in the Estonian SSR. Those contests were organized with the political background. For example it was the „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė», «Кубоккомсомола») in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR). As the activities of the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ were only formal, it was rulled by the Chairman and former R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ and secretary ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. As ROMAN MOROZ was fare away from bodybuilding sport in fact the real Chairman was ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. The meeting in Moscow made no important decisions. Only several statistic persons were changed. Among new statistic persons was one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding pioneers weightlifter GENADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин). ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was inviting DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to join his work. The above mentioned meeting spoke about OLEV ANNUS letters to the Socialist Sport Press and accused him about this. The „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ prohibited OLEV ANNUS to participate at any U.S.S.R. bodybuilding competitions.

R.I.P. WORLD BODYBUILDING LEGEND. On August 29, 2023 has passed away the World Bodybuilding Legend – CESLAV TAMULEVICH (ЧеславТамулевич, 1945 – 2023). He was one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding pioneers, bodybuilder, trainer, chairman of the famous „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“. During the sixties and seventies of the last century CESLAV TAMULEVICH influenced directly the development of bodybuilding in the Socialist Countries. 2023 NEWS INTERNATIONAL. EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP IN LATVIA. Today the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International unites 140 Country – Members and organizes nearly 60 annual Amateur and Professional International Events World Wide. Looking from the juridical point of view the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International is no doubt the Real World Bodybuilding Leader. We mean sport, not festivals. On October 1, 2023 the 28-th Europe Amateur Championship and traditional contest “Liepaja Classic 2023” will be organized at Liepaja Olympic Centre (Republic of Latvia). The year of 1981 started with the traditional „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарныйприз», 1968 – 2023) contest in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). Since 1978 this contest was accepted as the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). We should underline that the possibility of the public competitions in the U.S.S.R. was got only after the victorial visit of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to Moscow. Then he wrote and personally brought the bodybuilding defending petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers in Moscow and received permittion to organize bodybuilding contests. The category winners of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were EUGENE GORELIK (ЕвгенийГорелик, Lithuanian SSR), INDREK OTSUS (Estonian SSR), SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (Lithuanian SSR) and OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR). The Over All Winner was SAULIUS MISEVICIUS. There were two teams of the Estonian SSR at the competition. One was of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR led by OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO. Another one was of INNAR MARDO. Before the contest the Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS instructed the International Judges not to alow OLEV ANNUS to win the Over All Champion‘s title again. The „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ knew that OLEV ANNUS plans to emigrante from the U.S.S.R. to Finland. That was a terrible action of him against the Communist regime. How the Over All U.S.S.R. bodybuilding champion can do this? So OLEV ANNUS lost the title. The head Judge of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ was a friend of OLEV ANNUS. Several days after the competition he canceled the results of „Amber Prix International“ and in official letter asked the Chairman of the formal „U.S.S.R. INNAR MARDO popularity among U.S.S.R. bodybuilders and the results he achieved at the contests in the Socuialist countries made mad ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. In 1981 the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («МемориалГеоргаТенно», 1971 - 1989) was organized in „Tallinn Olympic Pirita Centre“ (Талинский олимпийский центр Пирита») by INNAR MARDO without the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. At that time the director of this centre was Lithuanian PRANAS MICKEVICIUS. In 1981 the above mentioned PRANAS MICKEVICIUS overturned OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO and took the leadership in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1981 a meeting of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Всесоюзная комиссия атлетической гимнастики») was held in Moscow (R.S.F.S.R.). Bodybuilding was still prohibited but a number of public competitions were held in Lithuanian SSR and in the Estonian SSR. Those contests were organized with the political background. For example it was the „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė», «Кубоккомсомола») in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR). As the activities of the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ were only formal, it was rulled by the Chairman and former R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ and secretary ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. As ROMAN MOROZ was fare away from bodybuilding sport in fact the real Chairman was ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. The meeting in Moscow made no important decisions. Only several statistic persons were changed. I.O.C., A.A.U., F.I.H.C., N.A.B.B.A.. HOW WORLD BODYBUILDING WAS DEVELOPED. WHY SOCIALIST BODYBUILDING WENT DIFERENT WAY?
Why „Socialist“ bodybuilding was so much diferent from the „Western“ one? To get the answer we must to study the biography of American BOB HOFFMAN and the documents of the International Weightlifting F.I.H.C. (F.I.H., Federation Internationale Halterophile) federation. Only then the answer will come. And this is the ABC of bodybuilding. One can not read and one can not write if he does not know the ABC.
All his life BOB HOFFMAN was working together with the A.A.U. („Amateur Athletes Union“). A.A.U. was the Ministry of Sport in the USA by fact. BOB HOFMAN wanted bodybuilding to become the Olympic sport and step by step he was keeping on this direction. Due to his efforts in 1947 a member of the I.O.C. International F.I.H.C. federation included bodybuilding in it‘s programmes. F.I.H.C. started ruling official bodybuilding sport. This way BOB HOFFMAN saw the real recognition of bodybuilding as sport. He was always supported by the Chairmen of the A.A.U., the F.I.H.C., the National Olympic Committe of the USA and by the I.O.C.. For many years the Chairman of the A.A.U., the National Olympic Committe of the USA and of the I.O.C. was a good friend of BOB HOFFMAN. That was AVERY BRUNDAGE (1887 – 1975). No other companies or organizations could compete with BOB HOFFMAN during the time of his active work in bodybuilding because the A.A.U., the F.I.H.C., the National Olympic Committe of the USA and of the I.O.C. was behind BOB HOFFMAN.
After the WWII WEIDER brothers JOE and BEN started their private company „I.F.B.B.“ (International Federation of Bodybuilders) but the company worked only in the USA and Canada. In 1950 N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association) started it‘s work in Great Britain, but that was a National Association only.
It is evident today that it was BOB HOFFMAN who brought bodybuilding sport to many countries, the Great Britain as well. Due to his efforts in 1947 the F.I.H.C. started ruling the official bodybuilding sport. The first in the sport history „Mr. Universe“ contest was organized in 1947 in the USA. Since that time it was always held together with the F.I.H.C. World Weightlifting Championship. In 1947 the Over All „Mr. Universe“ Champion was a pupil of BOB HOFFMAN American STEVE STANKO.
By the initiative of BOB HOFFMAN the second F.I.H.C. „Mr. Universe“ contest was held in 1948 in London (Great Britain). It was organized during the London Olympic Games. This was possible to do only when a member of the I.O.C. International F.I.H.C. federation was behind it. Formally the organizer of the „Mr. Universe“ was a member of the F.I.H.C. British B.A.W.L.A. (British Amateur Weightlifting Association). The Over All „Mr. Universe“ was again a pupil of BOB HOFFMAN American JOHN GRIMEK.
In the Socialist Countries bodybuilding appeared also by the efforts of BOB HOFFMAN. It happened in 1959 when the F.I.H.C. organized World Weightlifting Championship in Warszawa (People‘s Republic of Poland, P.N.R., Polska Narodowa Respublika). As a tradition the F.I.H.C. bodybuilding „Mr. Universe“ was held at the same time. Then the Over All Champion was French GUY MIERCZUK. The people of the Socialist World first time saw „live“ bodybuilders. National Weightlifting Federations of the Socialist Countries started setting their bodybuilding departments. First of all it happened in the U.S.S.R., People‘s Republic of Poland, German Democratic Republic (D.D.R., Deutches Demokratishe Republik) and Czechoslovakian SSR (Č.S.S.R., Československa Socialisticka Respublika). WHY SOCIALIST BODYBUILDING WENT IT‘S OWN WAY?
We have mentioned before that BOB HOFFMAN ifluenced on the establishing bodybuilding departments at the National Weightlifting Federations of Socialist countries. It happened after 1959 F.I.H.C. bodybuilding „Mr. Universe“ held in Warszawa (People‘s Republic of Poland).
In 1963 the Ministry of Sport of the U.S.S.R. (Министерство спорта С.С.С.Р., Госкомспорт С.С.С.Р.) issued an order to set the bodybuilding department at the U.S.S.R. Weightliftin Federation. It was named the „Bodybuilding Committee“. The Chairman of the Committee was a known R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз). There were no real bodybuilders in the U.S.S.R. then. Weightlifters did not knew much about it too. This way the Committee did nothing and finally stopped working.
Later the first among the Socialist countries was the U.S.S.R. again ant it was the Lithuanian SSR. The new grown bodybuilders required leadership.
On April 19, 1968 during the International Contest in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR) a new International Bodybuilding Committee was established. It was named the „U.S.S.R. Social Committee of Bodybuilding“ («Общественный комитет по атлетической гимнастике С.С.С.Р.»). The Committee was rulled by the Council of five persons:

The Chairman of the Committee was the mentioned above ROMAN MOROZ. Folowing six years the Committee rulled the official U.S.S.R. bodybuilding sport. We want to underline that the Committee (International Bopdybuilding Organization) was set two years before the I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) Sport Federation established in 1970 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia). Until 1970 the I.F.B.B. was a private company of JOE and BEN WEIDER brothers – not a sport federation.
Why we are discussing the same topic again? We must speak about the F.I.H.C. rules that several decades influenced the development of bodybuilding in the Socialist countries. According the F.I.H.C. rules the basics of bodybuilding are power exercises. Only this way F.I.H.C. bodybuilding was connected with weightlifting. Only this way bodybuilding was clearly close to a recognized Olympic sport and that was a big wish of BOB HOFFMAN.
In 1947 F.I.H.C. started ruling the official bodybuilding sport in the World. Power exercises were at all contest programmes. It lasted until 1969 when F.I.H.C. stopped it. In 1973 the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport issued the order to prohibit bodybuilding. One way F.I.H.C. rules minimized the prosecution of bodybuilding in the Socialist countries. At the same time it stopped development of bodybuilding as it was in the „Western“ World. This way the Socialist bodybuilders were left behind the „Western“ ones.
After 1969 there were no more power exercises at the „Western“ competitions. For many years the U.S.S.R. bodybuilders guestioned why they have power exercises at their contests? Power exercises was the obstacle to develop perfect bodies. Bodybuilders had to make a choice – to develop power or to develop their bodies.
If we speak about the U.S.S.R. we can state that the first bodybuilders were similar to the „West“ bodybuilders due to their individual nature. The U.S.S.R. leading athletes were Lithuanians VALDAS ALIUBAVICIUS, LEONAS PIVORIUNAS, CESLAV TAMULEVIC (Чеслав Тамулевич), PRANAS MURAUSKAS, Estonian OLEV ANNUS (Олев Аннус) and Russian VLADIMIR DUBININ (Владимир Дубинин). The bodybuilders who went the way of power exercises did not have perfect muscles. A good example is the U.S.S.R. Champion ALEKSANDR LEMECHOV (Александр Лемехов, R.S.S.F.R., Severodvinsk).
Bodybuilders of the Lithuanian SSR dominated in the U.S.S.R. until in 1987 the official recognized by Government U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation was set. Discussing about the F.I.H.C. influence on bodybuilding we will illustrate it through Lithuanian bodybuilders.
We can state that the representatives of the famous „Vilnius Bodybuilding School“ (“Вильнюсская школа культуризма») were equal to the „Western“ bodybuilders at once. The „School“ was led by CESLAV TAMULEVIC (Чеслав Тамулевич). The „School“ bodybuilders were on top always due to the training methods. These methods were without developing classic power exercises. Body was the priority. Best representatives of the „School“ were VALDAS ALIUBAVICIUS, PRANAS MURAUSKAS, RICARDAS KRINICKIS, EUGENE ZURCEV (Евгений Журцев), EUGENE GORELIK (Евгений Горелик), STASYS CUKANOVAS (Стасис Цукановас). At the same time Kaunas bodybuilders went the F.I.H.C. way. Power exercises and methods dominated at their training sessions. Nobody in the U.S.S.R. knew anything about diet. It lasted until in 1976 the Estonian OLEV ANNUS (Олев Аннус) appeared ripped on the contest stage. The first International level bodybuilder from Kaunas was VLADAS KAPCEVICIUS (Владас Капцявичус). WHO IN U.S.S.R. COULD THINK ON INTERNATIONAL LEVEL? ROLE OF PERSONALITY IN LIFE AND SPORT. Everyone‘s personality depends on many items. One of them is – basing on which position a personality analizes all happenings. We mean bodybuilders, of course. Do you think of this as a sportsman, as a trainer or organizer or you think as an International Leader? Specialists of our sport scrutinize the same documents and the same basics but everybody of them evaluate the same items on a different way. Then we may look if this specialist is of a local level or he represents the International one. The specialist must get himself above the happenings of his time and he must look on everything like a flying bird high in the sky. Otherwise he can not understand waht is going on. In the U.S.S.R. there were only few personalities who could think wide in the very beginning of bodybuilding. The representatives of various regions of the U.S.S.R. mostly were thinking in a narrow way. For example, Tiumen gym trainer JEVGENIJ KOLTUN (ЕвгенийКолтун, R.S.F.S.R.) always represented a gym level and nothing more. The same was with a Kaliningrad trainer JURIJ SMOLIAKOV (ЮрийСмоляков, R.S.F.S.R.) and with a Severodvinsk trainer the U.S.S.R. Champion ALEKSANDR LEMECHOV (АлександрЛемехов, R.S.F.S.R.). The same was with a Leningrad gym trainer VLADIMIR DUBININ (ВладимирДубинин, R.S.F.S.R.). A representative of Riga (Latvian SSR) FELIKS SAJKOVSKIJ (ФеликсСайковский) and nearly all representatives of the Lithuanian SSR were on the same local level of understanding. There were no more active bodybuilding organizers in the U.S.S.R. at that time but only those we mentioned only. The exception could be the General Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («ФедерациякультуризмаС.С.С.Р.») ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS (РоманасКалинаускас). How we can understand this „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ when bodybuilding in the U.S.S.R. is prohibited? It had totally no power. But unfortunatelly all activities of ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS were done through intrigues and blackmailing of his sport friends to the Communist political powers. Knowing no foreign languages ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was separated from the World and could not understand the International process. Another exceptional person was INNAR MARDO (ИннарМардо, 1946 – 2002, Tallinn, Estonian SSR). He also did not know any foreign language and worked only in Estonia. Even to do anything on the U.S.S.R. level he had no interest. But on regular basis organized by INNAR MARDO „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («МемориалГеоргаТенно», 1971 – 1989, Tallinn, Estonian SSR) contests gave him a huge prestige and respect of others. One more exception was DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. During the period of bodybuilding prohibition he organized illegal „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарныйприз», 1968 – 2023, Klaipeda, Lithuanian SSR) contests in 1974, 1975, 1976 and in 1977. Wishing to defend bodybuilding sport DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS for several years was in correspondence with the Ministry of Sport of the U.S.S.R. („U.S.S.R. Goskomsport“,ГоскомспортС.С.С.Р.). Finally received from the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport a negatyve answer DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS wrote a bodybuilding defending petition and personally brought it to Moscow. He presented the petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers: to the Central Committee of the U.S.S.R. Communist Party (Центральный Комитет Коммунистической партии С.С.С.Р.), to the U.S.S.R. Supreme Council (Верховный Совет С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. Ministry Council (Совет Министров С.С.С.Р.) and to the U.S.S.R. cental political newspapers „Pravda“ («Правда») and „Izvestija“ («Известия»). In 1978 due to the petition of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS the U.S.S.R. political powers gave him permition to organize „Amber Prix International“ in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). Leaders do not like a stable life. A Leader of any kind has courage and resposibility. Leaders always seek the result end never doubt if they will not succeed. At the same time the majority does nothing. They sit in silence. So who was the bodybuilding Leader in the U.S.S.R.? The very similar to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS life was of his friends in sport: the President I.F.B.B. (International Federation of Body Builders) BEN WEIDER, also the similar way of life was of the President N.A.B.B.A. (National Amateur Body Building Association) OSCAR HEIDENSTAM and W.A.B.B.A. (World Amateur Body Building Association) President SERGE NUBRET. The same similar way was of the General Secretary F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturiste) International OSCAR STATE. Not knowing foreign languages narrowed possibilities of INNAR MARDO, but DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS assisted and helped him always. ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS did not know any foreign language and he always worked to be close to the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Sport. To say more he did his best to be close to the U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation (ФедерациятяжёлойатлетикиС.С.С.Р.). That were his top items for respect and loyality. But what he could get out of this when bodybuilding was prohibited in the U.S.S.R.? Just nothing. While studying English and German philology at the Vilnius State University DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS did several attempts to unite gyms of Vilnius City. Nobody else never tried to do this. Anyway bodybuilding was prohibited in the U.S.S.R. and bodybuilders were afraid to do anything. It is easy to speak when the work is done and everything goes smoothly. But at the moment to fight agaist bodybuilding prohibition no one supported DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. No one. Today being already old many former U.S.S.R. bodybuilding organizers and bodybuilders try to „be Facebook friends“ of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Fine. But where they were at the hard times of risky fighting? During the fifty years of his bodybuilding activities there was a number of „deputies“ and assistants of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Many wanted to take the place of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and to go on doing the same. No one succeeded. Many disliked the stormy activities of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Especially when he succeeded in his work. And he did. Having no wish to get into the intrigues of such people DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS got into the Vilnius State University in 1979 again. This time DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS studied law after he received the speciality of the phylology before. And again he succeeded. The same happened with INNAR MARDO. He was pressed by the people of envy and hate to leave his work and positions after the intriques in the formal Bodybuilding Federattion of the Estonian SSR. INNAR MARDO did not succeed to come back in full power again. There were several attemps but he was never back to the former normal situation. Hate and envy of his bodybuilding collegues ruined his life in sport. This information is based on the letters of INNAR MARDO to DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS. Klaipeda bodybuilding was always a „Separate Republic“. And still is. It was in Lithuania, in the U.S.S.R. and Internationally now. JOZEF KARDINAL TOMKO (КардиналИозефТомко) was interested very much. Very big interest was shown to the bodybuilding defending petition of DSc. WORLD BODYBUILDING HISTORY. 1981. SOCIALIST WORLD BODYBUILDING NEWS. 1981 „GEORG TENNO MEMORIAL“. In 1981 bodybuilding was still prohibited in the Socialist countries. Political powers controlled illegal bodybuilding through the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») which was reset at the „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ («Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.») in 1979. That was based on the old F.I.H.C. (F.H.C., „Federation Internationale Halterophile”) federation traditions. The year of 1981 started with the traditional „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарныйприз», 1968 – 2023) contest in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). Since 1978 this contest was accepted as the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). We should underline that the possibility of the public competitions in the U.S.S.R. was got only after the victorial visit of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to Moscow. Then he wrote and personally brought the bodybuilding defending petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers in Moscow and received permittion to organize bodybuilding contests. The category winners of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were EUGENE GORELIK (ЕвгенийГорелик, Lithuanian SSR), INDREK OTSUS (Estonian SSR), SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (Lithuanian SSR) and OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR). The Over All Winner was SAULIUS MISEVICIUS. There were two teams of the Estonian SSR at the competition. One was of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR led by OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO. Another one was of INNAR MARDO. Before the contest the Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS instructed the International Judges not to alow OLEV ANNUS to win the Over All Champion‘s title again. The „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ knew that OLEV ANNUS plans to emigrante from the U.S.S.R. to Finland. That was a terrible action of him against the Communist regime. How the Over All U.S.S.R. bodybuilding champion can do this? So OLEV ANNUS lost the title. The head Judge of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ was a friend of OLEV ANNUS. Several days after the competition he canceled the results of „Amber Prix International“ and in official letter asked the Chairman of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMAN MOROZ (РоманМороз) to aprove his decission. ROMAN MOROZ was against the decission and the results of the contest remained unchanged. At the saame time OLEV ANNUS wrote letters to the Socialist press saying about bad judging and explaining that the results of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were canceled. We have no information about 1981 intriques in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1979 after the quarell OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO overturned INNAR MARDO (ИннарМардо, 1946 – 2002) and took the leadership in the federation. Then ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was supporting the replacing of INNAR MARDO. INNAR MARDO popularity among U.S.S.R. bodybuilders and the results he achieved at the contests in the Socuialist countries made mad ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. In 1981 the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («МемориалГеоргаТенно», 1971 - 1989) was organized in „Tallinn Olympic Pirita Centre“ (Талинский олимпийский центр Пирита») by INNAR MARDO without the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. At that time the director of this centre was Lithuanian PRANAS MICKEVICIUS. In 1981 the above mentioned PRANAS MICKEVICIUS overturned OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO and took the leadership in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1981 a meeting of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Всесоюзная комиссия атлетической гимнастики») was held in Moscow (R.S.F.S.R.). Bodybuilding was still prohibited but a number of public competitions were held in Lithuanian SSR and in the Estonian SSR. Those contests were organized with the political background. For example it was the „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė», «Кубоккомсомола») in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR). As the activities of the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ were only formal, it was rulled by the Chairman and former R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ and secretary ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. As ROMAN MOROZ was fare away from bodybuilding sport in fact the real Chairman was ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. The meeting in Moscow made no important decisions. Only several statistic persons were changed. Among new statistic persons was one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding pioneers weightlifter GENADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин). ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was inviting DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to join his work. The above mentioned meeting spoke about OLEV ANNUS letters to the Socialist Sport Press and accused him about this. The „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ prohibited OLEV ANNUS to participate at any U.S.S.R. bodybuilding competitions.

WORLD BODYBUILDING HISTORY. 1981. SOCIALIST WORLD BODYBUILDING NEWS. 1981 „AMBER PRIX INTERNATIONAL“. In 1981 bodybuilding was still prohibited in the Socialist countries. Political powers controlled illegal bodybuilding through the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Федерация культуризма С.С.С.Р.») which was reset at the „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ («Федерация тяжёлой атлетики С.С.С.Р.») in 1979. That was based on the old F.I.H.C. (F.H.C., „Federation Internationale Halterophile”) federation traditions. The year of 1981 started with the traditional „Amber Prix International“ („Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарныйприз», 1968 – 2023) contest in Klaipeda (Lithuanian SSR). Since 1978 this contest was accepted as the „Unofficial U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“ («неофициальный Чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»). We should underline that the possibility of the public competitions in the U.S.S.R. was got only after the victorial visit of DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to Moscow. Then he wrote and personally brought the bodybuilding defending petition to the highest U.S.S.R. political powers in Moscow and received permittion to organize bodybuilding contests. The category winners of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were EUGENE GORELIK (ЕвгенийГорелик, Lithuanian SSR), INDREK OTSUS (Estonian SSR), SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (Lithuanian SSR) and OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR). The Over All Winner was SAULIUS MISEVICIUS. There were two teams of the Estonian SSR at the competition. One was of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR led by OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO. Another one was of INNAR MARDO. Before the contest the Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS instructed the International Judges not to alow OLEV ANNUS to win the Over All Champion‘s title again. The „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ knew that OLEV ANNUS plans to emigrante from the U.S.S.R. to Finland. That was a terrible action of him against the Communist regime. How the Over All U.S.S.R. bodybuilding champion can do this? So OLEV ANNUS lost the title. The head Judge of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ was a friend of OLEV ANNUS. Several days after the competition he canceled the results of „Amber Prix International“ and in official letter asked the Chairman of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMAN MOROZ (РоманМороз) to aprove his decission. ROMAN MOROZ was against the decission and the results of the contest remained unchanged. At the saame time OLEV ANNUS wrote letters to the Socialist press saying about bad judging and explaining that the results of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were canceled. We have no information about 1981 intriques in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1979 after the quarell OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO overturned INNAR MARDO (ИннарМардо, 1946 – 2002) and took the leadership in the federation. Then ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was supporting the replacing of INNAR MARDO. INNAR MARDO popularity among U.S.S.R. bodybuilders and the results he achieved at the contests in the Socuialist countries made mad ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. In 1981 the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («МемориалГеоргаТенно», 1971 - 1989) was organized in „Tallinn Olympic Pirita Centre“ (Талинский олимпийский центр Пирита») by INNAR MARDO without the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. At that time the director of this centre was Lithuanian PRANAS MICKEVICIUS. In 1981 the above mentioned PRANAS MICKEVICIUS overturned OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO and took the leadership in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1981 a meeting of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Всесоюзная комиссия атлетической гимнастики») was held in Moscow (R.S.F.S.R.). Bodybuilding was still prohibited but a number of public competitions were held in Lithuanian SSR and in the Estonian SSR. Those contests were organized with the political background. For example it was the „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė», «Кубоккомсомола») in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR). As the activities of the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ were only formal, it was rulled by the Chairman and former R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ and secretary ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. As ROMAN MOROZ was fare away from bodybuilding sport in fact the real Chairman was ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. The meeting in Moscow made no important decisions. Only several statistic persons were changed. Among new statistic persons was one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding pioneers weightlifter GENADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин). ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was inviting DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to join his work. The above mentioned meeting spoke about OLEV ANNUS letters to the Socialist Sport Press and accused him about this. The „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ prohibited OLEV ANNUS to participate at any U.S.S.R. bodybuilding competitions.

GLIMPSES OF THE BODYBUILDING HISTORY. HOW IT WAS IN REAL. In 1959 the USA „Father of Weightlifting“ BOB HOFFMAN through the International Weightlifting Federation F.I.H.C. first time brought bodybuilding sport to the Socialist Countries. That was the World Weightlifting Championship in Warszawa - the Capital of the Polish Democratic Republic. Then F.I.H.C. organized the traditional bodybuilding „Mr. Universe“ in Warszawa too. 1963. FIRST SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL BODYBUILDING ORGANIZATION. They say, that in the sixties of the last Century the bodybuilding pioneers in the U.S.S.R. were Estonian GEORG TENNO (ГеоргТенно) and Russian ROMAN MOROZ (РоманМороз). In 1963 under the influence of BOB HOFFMAN the first International Bodybuilding Organization in the Socialist Countries (Всесоюзная комиссия по атлетической гимнастике) was established by the Ministry of Sport U.S.S.R. (Goskomsport U.S.S.R.). It was set at the U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation then. To control the bodybuilding sport the Ministry appointed the Chairman of this organization. That was a friend of BOB HOFFMAN a known U.S.S.R. weightlifting authority ROMAN MOROZ. The mentioned organization did not work as there were no real bodybuilders in the U.S.S.R. at that time. It was nothing special when a bodybuilding organization was established at the weightlifting federation of any country. International Weightlifting Federation F.I.H.C. since 1947 ruled the official World Bodybuilding sport. The F.I.H.C. and the A.A.U. were members of the International Olympic Committee. In fact using the positions in F.I.H.C. and A.A.U. the official World and U.S.A. bodybuilding sport was ruled by BOB HOFFMAN. Until 1969 no one could fight with BOB HOFFMAN when he had the I.O.C. members F.I.H.C. and A.A.U. behind. Later in 1968 the mentioned International Bodybuilding Organization of the Socialist Countries was renewed. It happened during an International Contest in Lithuania. Five members of the Executive Council ruled the Organization: Russians ROMAN MOROZ, VLADIMIR PETROV, GENADIJ BALDIN and Lithuanians VALERIJ KORESHKOV and VYTAUTAS ZUMERIS (Роман Мороз, Владимир Петров, Геннадий Балдин, Валерий Корешков, Витаутас Зумерис). 1966. FIRST SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL CONTEST. First pioneers of bodybuilding in Russia were weightlifters MARK SHAFRAN (Марк Шафран), ROMAN MOROZ (Роман Мороз), the first in the Socialist Countries World Weightlifting Champion GRIGORIJ NOVAK (Григорий Новак), Estonian GEORG TENNO and GENNADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин). In 1966 a bodybuilding contest was organized in Moscow (Russia) where the winner was IGOR PETRUCHIN (Игорь Петрухин). Also in 1966 the first in the Socialist Countries International Bodybuilding competition was organized in Vilnius (Lithuania). The Winners were IGOR PETRUCHIN (Russia), RYTIS MACIJAUSKAS and KLEMENSAS ALSHAUSKAS (both Lithuania). TRADITIONAL BODYBUILDING CONTESTS. During the bodybuilding prohibition in the Socialist World (1973 – 1987) only few brave persons dared to organize competitions. There were only two regular International Bodybuilding Contests in all Socialist World: the „Amber Prix International“ (1968 – 2021, „Gintarinis prizas“, «Янтарныйприз») organized in Lithuania by DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS and „Georg Tenno Memorial“ (1971 – 1989, «МемориалГеоргаТэнно») organized in Estonia by INNAR MARDO. „Amber Prix International“ since 1978 until 1988 was unofficial „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Championship“(«неофициальный «чемпионат С.С.С.Р. по культуризму»).. PROHIBITION OF BODYBUILDING. In 1973 the prosecution and prohibition of bodybuilding started in the Socialist World. Every country went it‘s own original way. In some countries contests were still organized with huge difficulties. First of all in Czechoslovakia. The category winners of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were EUGENE GORELIK (ЕвгенийГорелик, Lithuanian SSR), INDREK OTSUS (Estonian SSR), SAULIUS MISEVICIUS (Lithuanian SSR) and OLEV ANNUS (Estonian SSR). The Over All Winner was SAULIUS MISEVICIUS. There were two teams of the Estonian SSR at the competition. One was of the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR led by OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO. Another one was of INNAR MARDO. Before the contest the Secretary of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS instructed the International Judges not to alow OLEV ANNUS to win the Over All Champion‘s title again. The „U.S.S.R. Weightlifting Federation“ knew that OLEV ANNUS plans to emigrante from the U.S.S.R. to Finland. That was a terrible action of him against the Communist regime. How the Over All U.S.S.R. bodybuilding champion can do this? So OLEV ANNUS lost the title. The head Judge of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ was a friend of OLEV ANNUS. Several days after the competition he canceled the results of „Amber Prix International“ and in official letter asked the Chairman of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ ROMAN MOROZ (РоманМороз) to aprove his decission. ROMAN MOROZ was against the decission and the results of the contest remained unchanged. At the saame time OLEV ANNUS wrote letters to the Socialist press saying about bad judging and explaining that the results of the 1981 „Amber Prix International“ were canceled. We have no information about 1981 intriques in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1979 after the quarell OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO overturned INNAR MARDO (ИннарМардо, 1946 – 2002) and took the leadership in the federation. Then ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was supporting the replacing of INNAR MARDO. INNAR MARDO popularity among U.S.S.R. bodybuilders and the results he achieved at the contests in the Socuialist countries made mad ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. In 1981 the „Georg Tenno Memorial“ («МемориалГеоргаТенно», 1971 - 1989) was organized in „Tallinn Olympic Pirita Centre“ (Талинский олимпийский центр Пирита») by INNAR MARDO without the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. At that time the director of this centre was Lithuanian PRANAS MICKEVICIUS. In 1981 the above mentioned PRANAS MICKEVICIUS overturned OLEV ANNUS and brothers ARRO and took the leadership in the National Bodybuilding Federation of the Estonian SSR. In 1981 a meeting of the formal „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ («Всесоюзная комиссия атлетической гимнастики») was held in Moscow (R.S.F.S.R.). Bodybuilding was still prohibited but a number of public competitions were held in Lithuanian SSR and in the Estonian SSR. Those contests were organized with the political background. For example it was the „Comsomol Cup“ („Komjaunimo taurė», «Кубоккомсомола») in Kaunas (Lithuanian SSR). As the activities of the „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ were only formal, it was rulled by the Chairman and former R.S.F.S.R. weightlifter ROMAN MOROZ and secretary ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. As ROMAN MOROZ was fare away from bodybuilding sport in fact the real Chairman was ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS. The meeting in Moscow made no important decisions. Only several statistic persons were changed. Among new statistic persons was one of the U.S.S.R. bodybuilding pioneers weightlifter GENADIJ BALDIN (Геннадий Балдин). ROMANAS KALINAUSKAS was inviting DSc. EDMUNDAS DAUBARAS to join his work. The above mentioned meeting spoke about OLEV ANNUS letters to the Socialist Sport Press and accused him about this. The „U.S.S.R. Bodybuilding Federation“ prohibited OLEV ANNUS to participate at any U.S.S.R. bodybuilding competitions.

2023 NEWS INTERNATIONAL. EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP IN LATVIA. Today the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. (World Fitness Federation, World Body Building Federation) International unites 140 Country – Members and organizes nearly 60 annual Amateur and Professional International Events World Wide. Looking from the juridical point of view the W.F.F. – W.B.B.F. International is no doubt the Real World Bodybuilding Leader. We mean sport, not festivals. On October 1, 2023 the 28-th Europe Amateur Championship and traditional contest “Liepaja Classic 2023” will be organized at Liepaja Olympic Centre (Republic of Latvia). The organizers hope it will be a tradition and the contest will be held every year. It is planned that the International Bodybuilding Leaders will officially visit the Parliament of the Latvian Republic on October 2. In 2023 it will happen right after the 34-th “World Am-Pro Championship” (September 30, 2023, Klaipeda, Republic Lithuania). INFORMATION.
