[/i]USN MILLENNIUM GOLD PLATE [i]9th April 2011, Springs Town Hall will be in the history books of Bodybuilding South Africa forever. The WFF/WBBF Millennium show hosted by Tommy Du Rand was without challenge the biggest Bodybuilding show this country has ever seen. The growth and popularity of this show has increased to unbelievable levels as the show saw 244 (two hundred and forty four) athletes attend and another record of 51 female entrants was achieved and 1965 spectators arrived to witness what was an historical moment in Bodybuilding South Africa.
The behind the scene efforts of getting the athletes registered and weighed in was hilarious to say the least as although we were expecting a large turnout, we were not expecting the amount that arrived and suddenly we were under pressure and steam was blowing off all over the place as we ran out of safety pins and had to go shopping for more and even the entry forms had to be produced in lighting quick time to ensure the smooth running of the show. Well done to the team for a great job under immense pressure.
The line ups in every division were huge and the judges were once again called on for superhuman effort and a superhuman effort they produced. Eight hours of live judging, elimination and final judging kept the judges on their toes. WFF/WBBF welcomes Hennie Hurter as National Chief Judge and congratulates him for a fantastic job of weighing in and control of the athletes on the stage and for making our job as judges a pleasure by keeping us in high spirits and your sense of humour is welcome and refreshing. Well done to all the judges and trial judges as not one “BOO” was heard the entire evening.
The athletes were outstanding and to see body conditioning at this level so early in the season is outstanding to say the least. The Ladies Model Fitness Bikini saw 33 stunning ladies battle it out in the tall and short divisions with the Overall Trophy going to Jénine Kruger after a good challenge from her good friend Anna Wood. The Ladies Performance Figure Overall Trophy was won by Helena Leonard who was in absolute world class condition.
The Junior men divisions were once again hotly contested by some amazing bodies and congratulation to the three winners U/16 Andile Mathebula , U/18 Jacques Pieterse, U/21 Thabo Mbungata. The winner of the O/40 Men Division Naiem Alley was truly magnificent and a deserving winner of this division.
The Senior Men Divisions caused the crowds to become completely involved as the competition was so close that it had the crowds up and screaming for their favourite. The Men’s Overall was hotly contested between Corne Engelbrecht and Colin Cambell and eventually the outstanding world class condition of Corne engelbrecht won it for him on the night. Well done Corne.
